@1GarethWynJones Swapping dairy milk for oat milk would take up 1,140,077 arable hectares which is larger than the area dairy currently occupies. It would also produce 1,530,000 tonnes of oat pulp which is fed to livestock. You haven’t though this through have you guys 🤔

@MatthewStadlen This is not true Matthew & a very simplistic argument. Bi-products from products such as tofu, oat milk & sugar are consumed by ruminants & monogastrics. Without them consuming waste products the carbon footprint of the original product would be higher

Dry peat realises carbon, so we remove trees to help keep peatland wet. Sheep (for free) would normally keep trees growth low but the environmentalists think sheep are bad. They rather pay 💰 me to go in with diggers to do it as this is better for the environment than sheep 🤯

@GeorgeMonbiot Fermented protein to feed the UK requires 150,000ha of solar panels and concrete 🙈 Oat milk will require 1.2m ha. Malting barley & alcohol 800,000ha 🍺 So that’s half the UK arable area on drinks & protein 🏭🌾 Doesn’t sound very efficient to me 🤔

maintaining Lamb production at its current level is not sustainable. There were 33 million sheep/lambs in the UK last year. That's the largest flock in Europe - and as large as Turkey's, a country over 3 times as big. Sheep/lamb production has a huge land-use & climate footprint.

So instead I’m farming in the way it was farmed for centuries, Longhorns and Tamworths in wood pasture, for beef. Check the old maps. There were no fields here a century and a half ago.

Methane stays in the atmosphere for 12 years. Carbon dioxide stays in the atmosphere for 300 - 1,000 years Methane has 25x the warming potential of carbon dioxide 25 x 12 = 300 years equivalent So if vegetation rots down or is eaten by a ruminant, is there any difference?
