Mike Tomlin was asked why the Steelers opened with Mason Rudolph instead of Ben Roethlisberger in first team period.
His answer: "We just like for you guys to ask questions and we did it for our own enjoyment."

Good news for Bud Dupree. He was not fined for the roughing-the-passer penalty late in the fourth quarter against the Browns. NFL apparently agreed the hit wasn’t worthy of a flag let alone a fine.

Inside linebackers coach Jerry Olsavsky's wife, Rayme, died this morning, the Steelers announced. Olsavsky hasn't been at practice in recent days. In a statement, the Steelers said, "Words cannot express the sadness for Jerry and the loss of his wife."
Thought on Boswell situation. Put him on IR with phantom groin/leg injury (say it happened on slip). Sign another kicker for home stretch and tell Boswell to get right for next year. Too much invested in him and he was too reliable last year to cut him free and take big cap hit.

Keith Butler said Minkah Fitzpatrick has been open to moving around in the defense (and even excited about it) after balking at it when he was in Miami. Butler said it is because Minkah is more comfortable in the Steelers defense and has knowledge of what all 11 are doing.

R.I.P. to David Lander. To most, he was known as Squiggy. To those in the baseball world, he was a diehard Pirates fan and constant presence in the Dodger Stadium press box when the Pirates visited Los Angeles.
Cam Heyward said he has no "ill will" toward Le'Veon Bell but said he's not going to take it easy on his former teammate, either. I asked if he would say anything to Le'Veon if he got him on the ground. Heyward smiled. "That's one. Get ready for number two."
