I changed our Twitter profile to reflect that we pay writers. I’ve always thought, No, don’t put that, that’s crass. But u know what? We paid writers $2,645 last year. Like, real money. It wasn’t easy. We’re proud of it. We’re proud of being a paying market for almost a year now.

2020 fiscal report: Our Submittable fees generated $3,748.51. We paid out $2,645 to writers, $1,193 to editors. Donations helped bridge that gap. Factoring expenses, we didn’t break even this year, posting a loss. I’m a little heartbroken we’re in the red, but we’ll keep at it 💪

I once had a fiction manuscript “in progress” in Submittable for a year and a half. 😤 I say this cuz according to Duotrope, we are ranked 12 of the 100 fastest responding journals, behind Threepenny, Jellyfish, Milk Candy, Bending Genres & others. We try to stay on top of it.
