Home and happy. I thought writing about the last few months would help with dealing with what’s happened to our little family. It’s not over yet but we’ve come a long way:
It’s 3 months since Roux’s last operation on his tumour and today is the MRI scan to see if it has stayed away. Please, please, please have stayed away. 💙💙

‘N O O B V I O U S T U M O U R’. We are crying happy tears tonight. One year of these results now. The wait for this MRI has been tough and I physically felt weight lift from my shoulders when we got this news earlier tonight. Roux you are our hero.
#RouxsArmy
We received the news yesterday that “from a tumour point of view the scans look really good”. There are 3 areas which they are keeping a very close eye on but for now we will enjoy some good news. Scan again in 3 months. Thank you as ever for all of your kind words and support.
Roux’s out of surgery and recovering on intensive care. Hoping for a quiet night so that he can build his strength back up. Looks like his shunt was blocked. 💙
MRI results today and to quote the neurosurgeon: ‘The scan is perfect’. Which now means they have decided to move Roux to yearly scans. Another positive move for our superhero. This boy had a 10cm brain tumour at 4 weeks old, and look at him fly!

#BrainTumourRecovery
‘The scan looks excellent.’ The words from the neurosurgery consultant. Words that bring happy tears. Thank you for all of the words in the last couple of days. They’ve really helped.

Post -op CT Scan. No sedation needed so he got a couple of stickers from the CT team
@Leeds_Childrens
. To quote the member of staff: ‘he needs a crown as he is the king’.
#RouxsArmy
Unfortunately, Roux had two seizures yesterday just over an hour apart so we are being cared for exceptionally well at
@HullHospitals
. It was an ambulance to the hospital, 2 IOs, intubation and many rescue medications. A tough one but he’s now resting up. 💙💙
#RouxsArmy
We are off HDU and now on the ward. Bloods done, swabs done, urine pad sent off and just had a lumbar puncture 😢. He’s going through it. HR is still high so he’s surely fighting something off. He’s been an absolute little gem for daddy all day though.
#RouxsArmy
MRI today ✅ now the awful wait.
Neuropsychology appointment at
@Leeds_Childrens
tomorrow. A lot of anxiety around this one. Feel it may be the moment we hear about Roux’s capabilities as he grows up. Fingers crossed as he’s smashing all expectations so far
#BrainTumourRecovery
Happy 4th birthday to the one who inspires me everyday to be a better man. Roux, you bring so much joy to my life and I will go to the end of this earth to ensure you have the best possible future. You are a miracle. 💙
Less than 48 hours ago we had flashbacks of the day he was diagnosed. Same resus room, another 13 drs in A&E working on him, same blue light journey to LGI, same resus room in Leeds A&E, sent up for surgery immediately, PICU again. But now he’s home. Thank you again.
#RouxsArmy
1/ Global Development Delay. Roux’s development is severely delayed. No doubt a mixture of brain injury, spending the first year of life mostly laid in a hospital bed and operations one after the other has contributed towards this. When we were told we may need to consider …
Sorry to say Roux is poorly again. I found him at 8.30pm last night in seizure again. Rescue meds didn’t take him out of it, neither did a number of meds in hospital. Eventually got under control at about 3am. 9 Drs in the room with us at one point, brought back horrid memories💙
Roux will be going down for brain surgery number 11 tomorrow. He is well but the feeling is that he is having intermittent shunt blockages. It’s horrible he’s back in hospital but we hope to have him home again very soon. 💙

A message from my wife, the strongest mummy I know, written at the hospital bedside of our son Roux, both of us unable to be together.
@BorisJohnson
I hope you read this, you and your government should be utterly ashamed of yourselves

#DowningStChristmasParty
Yea, so yesterday I received a call from our surgeon who explained that there was ‘nothing to be concerned about’ from Roux’s scan! 🎉🥂 We celebrated with a walk in the snow and slept the best we’ve slept in a very long time last night.
#RouxsArmy
#BrainTumourAwareness
And he’s back and doing really well. Once again thank you to his amazing guardian angels
@Leeds_Childrens
. Hopefully a good recovery now 🤞 💙💙 thank you for all of the lovely messages.
#RouxsArmy
Well this is exciting. He’s taking steps and setting off on his own! Just the balancing and then watch out, Roux’s about!!
#RouxsArmy
#BrainTumourAwareness
He’s out again. A short stay and as you can see he’s well. I think he’s just having us on if I’m honest 😆 Thank you for all of the messages.
#RouxsArmy
He’s out. A little groggy but mummy says he seems fine - no crying. Thank you for all of the well wishes. Fingers crossed for the results in a week or so now 🤞
And he’s home again. Like nothing ever happened. The care was exceptional at
@ward_l52
@Leeds_Childrens
as always and though he’s still having his episodes we have a plan in place and feel much more comfortable about it all. Thank you for all of the messages. I love you buddy 💙
We are working hard with Roux and his walking. As you can see he walks on his left tip toe. We don’t know whether this is due to the tumour damage or if it’s a bad habit. This is the best we’ve had for a while now. 😊
#RouxsArmy
#BrainTumourAwarenessMonth
Roux has been walking on his tiptoes in the last few months. It’s really set him back on his walking progression, we don’t know whether this is due to the brain injury or habit. But, today at physio he walked flat footed all session! 😊

#BrainTumourRecovery
Our 6 week run of no seizures is over. 😢 Today a situation we dread took place: Roux having a seizure whilst my wife was driving. Luckily, they were very close to work/nursery and Amy managed to terminate the seizure quickly. He’s fine now; we are just gutted for him.
#Epilepsy
Nursery. Safe to say this has been a long and hard decision about enrolling Roux somewhere but we’ve set up his EHCP and decided on a provision. Delighted to say Roux has been having some integration days in the lead up to September and he’s loving it. So happy to hear this 🥰 💙
Yesterday we flew back to East Midlands and on the M1 driving home unfortunately Noah (yes, Noah) had a seizure in the car on the motorway. It was utterly terrifying to see our eldest son in the same way Roux often can be. He was turned to the car window, responding to us but …
He’s getting there. Working on the foundations for walking. Roux missed so much due to time in hospital and his visual impairment has hindered him too. He isn’t letting anything stop him. Proud.
#RouxsArmy
#BrainTumourRecovery
Great first week of the hols with our boys. Roux’s had botox to his left calf whilst under anaesthetic for his MRI and whilst we wait on his brain scan results his range is certainly improving. Much flatter feet when in his boots, casts and splints to come too 💪.
#RouxsArmy
Done and dusted. They have to cannulate his head though as he’s so hard to cannulate after all the surgery. 😢Not like he’s bothered look 🤣 Now the awful wait 😢.
#RouxsArmy
We have a poorly little fella at the moment. We took him over to Leeds yesterday and thankfully the usual shunt signs were actually just symptoms of his chest infection coupled with a viral one. As usual the
@ward_l52
team and
@LeedsHospitals
were fab and he’s just ‘normal’ ill
Our little maestro is in
@LeedsHospitals
(LGI) today to have a check up on his shunt and hydrocephalus. Fingers crossed all’s fine. He certainly looks it. 🤣
#BrainTumourAwareness
So we collected Roux’s school uniform yesterday. We are nervous, anxious but also very much excited. He’s going to come on so much. He’s come so far and are incredibly proud we are here, when we thought this may never happen. It’s a far cry from where we were nearly 4 years ago
Happy New Year from my family to yours. Grateful for how far we’ve come this year. Everything has been put into perspective and now I know what really matters and what we live and fight for. Fingers crossed for more celebration in 2021. As ever, thank you for giving us strength
Sorry to say but our Roux is back in hospital. I found him in seizure at 6am this morning. I have to say the speed of the ambulance crew and the work from
@HullHospitals
staff was amazing this morning. Roux is currently on the ward and is settled. 😢
#RouxsArmy
Quick update: CSF and blood cultures show nothing more sinister so far. Still very lethargic and happy laid in his bed watching CBeebies. Hoping to see his epilepsy nurse and for a plan moving forward. Thank you again for the messages, as always.
#RouxsArmy
So, in the last couple of weeks Roux has: said ‘ball’, ‘book’, ‘Zac’, ‘Becky’, ‘Nanna’, ‘mine’, ‘happy’, ‘Duggee’, has started turning pages of his book, doing circles on his bum and has today gone from laying down to sitting all alone. These are so huge for us,
#ProudDaddy
We’re getting there Roux, Roux. Our aim is to get him walking before he hits two. That milestone will be very special. Keep going kiddo. Excuse my after work attire 🤣🤣
#RouxsArmy
Unfortunately Roux suffered a seizure at 4am this morning. We were warned to prepare for it once he started nursery, just thought we’d get more than 24 hours. He’s fine and bounced back so fingers crossed. 1 seizure in 7 weeks is a decent run.
#RouxsArmy
#EpilepsyAwareness
We are devastated he’s back in hospital, though he is so well between his episodes. Normality has been paused again and as a family we are once again separated. I know he’s in the best place possible but I’m a bit broken this evening. Sleep well my hero x
#RouxsArmy
💙
Update: Roux is out of surgery. The surgeon said he believes the surgery went well. He’s currently in recovery and then hopefully we’ll both get to see him in a short while. Fingers crossed for a stable recovery over the next few days 🤞. Your support today has been invaluable 💙
Mummy’s home and by Roux’s side. Unfortunately, he’s had a rough night and the virus is nastier then first thought. The hope was for a discharge today but it looks like another 24/48 hours. Lines being checked for an infection but fingers crossed mummy cuddles do the trick.
6/ not a nice place to be. He’s full of personality, brings so much joy to our lives and has the most infectious giggle. We don’t know what he’s capable of but what we do know is that this boy will not give in.
#braintumourawarenessmonth
Roux had a seizure early yesterday evening and we had another trip to A&E. rescue medicine worked and he’s slept it off. Mummy and daddy had to leave Noah again and didn’t get home until 4am. The wife went to work to teach her Y6 class a few hours later. This and working is tough
Big week for us all this week. Roux will have his MRI to check for tumour regrowth on Thursday. The anxiety is almost unmanageable at times and the trauma he goes through again is so difficult to see. It’s hard not being able to explain to him. Fingers crossed
