Tomorrow is finally the day for Chuck’s GI scope. There’s been a lot of unknowns, frustrations, and a big scare, but we’re optimistic that we’ll have answers soon. He’s been a trooper all through this including his fast today. Prayers appreciated.

Just got Chuck and talked to the vet. They didn’t see anything on the scope, so that should be taken as a good sign. We’ll have to wait about a week for the biopsy results. He’s groggy, but we’re headed home.

Chuck has been dropped off. It will be a long day waiting for him. We already had to make a road trip this morning as this clinic in Tulsa was the quickest we could find to get him seen. Might add to this thread today with Chuck memories. He’s such a good boy.

Received a message last night with Chuck’s biopsy results. Protein losing enteropathy was confirmed. The inflammation is less than severe, so we’re starting a course of steroids along with his low fat diet. All of this comes to us as very good news. We finally have a plan.

Chuck saw an internal med vet today. Still don’t have a definite diagnosis, but he likely has a treatable condition. He had another ultrasound, and we’re awaiting some results before treatment. The best news is it’s likely not cancer. The original scan suggested it could be.

Chuck had lab work today to see how he was doing. Everything we needed to improve has improved. He still has a few things out of normal range, but we’re ecstatic about where we’re at. Need to discuss the results with the specialist, but hopefully we can reduce the steroid again.

Spoke to the specialist tonight. Encouraged by the results. Will reduce steroid, but still on for a bit. Lab recheck in 3 weeks. He wants his cholesterol higher. Low level is still signaling he’s not absorbing protein completely. We believe that will improve with cont treatment.

Chuck’s face says it all. Another 3 week lab check and his values are all normal or are just outside normal but improving! We’re good to taper down to a quarter of a steroid tab once a day. I believe we’ve beat this thing!

Chuck had his lab work done today. Been treating with a steroid, and his labs have improved! His albumin is normal, his protein has improved, and he’s gained weight. His appetite, energy, and BMs have all been good. Have to follow up with the specialist, but we’re thrilled.

Spoke with Chuck’s specialist this morning. We’re good to continue tapering the steroid. It will be a long few weeks of this (tapering and checking labs), but we can see the end of the tunnel. He’s been off the antibiotic for a couple of weeks and things have looked great.
