NYT bestselling author of James Beard Award Winning book: The Korean Vegan. I hate racism. I love kimchi. I still lawyer for BigLaw but opinions are my own.
This is not the first time this has happened, but this one REALLY annoys me. Unfortunately for "Rachael Issy," you can't cut and paste the two emblems that come with the original.
@Avery_Books
I shared a red sauce recipe on my IG Live today—a recipe I developed with my father in law (from Rome)—which I then used to make a pasta for my Italian husband (who found it delightful) and like clockwork: “STOP CULTURAL APPROPRIATING ITALIAN CUISINE!!!”
Remembering how annoyed I would get with my parents for relying on my English. And then seeing a sobbing Asian grandma with blood on her face after she was attacked by some white dude and wondering who is translating for her.

At many large law firms, on the day the bar exams come out, they send out a memo to all first year associates with a list of the attys at the firm who didn’t pass the first time. ❤️
@GShaneMorris
I am 42: just quit my FT job to pursue my passion, start my own business, write a NYT/James Beard winning book, and make more $ than I ever have. Childless and only just finding my purpose. You are a sad man already.
How good does that look? Was at a party and met someone from Italy. We got to talking and she mentioned pesto Genovese, a dish from Genova. Pesto + potatoes + green beans + pasta. Made it last night and it was definitely a winner!!
(A) there is no proof of them being sex workers; and (B) even if they were that doesn’t somehow make them (i) genderless, (ii) raceless, or (iii) any less deserving of the justice codified in the laws of their goddamn country. Yes the US is their country.
To the vegans who are asking me to turn a blind eye on xenophobia/racism b/c it was done in defense of animals, let me say this: the quickest way to lose all credibility in the eyes of diasporic communities who might otherwise be plant curious is by being xenophobic and racist.
Thinking of starting a podcast where I talk about complicated or relatively unknown laws (e.g. felony murder doctrine) and their potential applicability to current events in politics or elsewhere. This would be designed primarily for non-lawyers. Do you think this would fly?
“I for weeks have warned there would be violence on Jan 6... When you don’t have the courage as a leader to tell the truth..you get a capitol storm like this.”
@RepKinzinger
Someone gave my book a 1-⭐️ review b/c it’s “impossible” to find the ingredients so I guess having a Korean cookbook that calls for miso instead of doenjang and paprika instead of gochugaru would make it 5⭐️and we wonder how we got to accusations of whitewashing in everything
a young asian american woman was stalked, tortured, and stabbed to death in her home yesterday morning and while I know there's a path between the knowledge of that and this inexplicable grief I can't seem to walk it and sometimes I wish the world would pause for a bit so I could
My husband (Italian american) likes to say Korean words he’s learning around the house and has been saying “I want to drink coffee!” I finally broke it to him today: he’s been saying “I want to drink nose bleed!” for the past several weeks. 😂
By the time my heart was sound enough to have children, to give them the parents they deserve, my ovaries had all but checked out. I decided to commit my life to other pursuits. Regret can coexist with joy. Don’t politicize what is often a person’s most personal choice.
My book is sold out at all major retailers and so many ppl like it and this is the first second I’ve allowed myself to believe that maybe it’s not JUST because I have a big social media following but because I wrote a damn good book.
Ready to go!! My entirely vegan red bean pecan pie. I created this recipe to represent the Korean and the American in me and my family. Might I suggest a scoop of vegan vanilla ice cream with this?
This is obviously tongue-in-cheek, but wanted to share this with my Twitter fam, since this is where so many surreal moments have taken place! Thank you again to
@BradMossEsq
for asking me to join forces with him to fight the good fight!
I am not leaving the practice of law or my Firm—but now, my legal practice will be a component of The Korean Vegan and pursuing the causes I feel passionate about.
I once went on a date with a white guy who, while we walked from my car to his apartment, looked around at the ppl walking by us, muttered, "I'm worried they'll think I'm with a prostitute." I was wearing a black turtleneck dress--I had come straight from the office.
Yes. Because I’m Korean American and vegan, I am somehow the authority on the fact that a very tiny fraction of Korea (among many other countries including non Asian ones) eat dogs. In case it’s not clear, this is ridiculously offensive and racist.
@PadmaLakshmi
Not only is this laughably/embarrassingly wrong (like 2+2=75 wrong), the comparison to French/white food as the implicit standard by which all other foods should be measured is so revealing.
I am 42 years old, been working at my firm for 17 years, and I just texted my BFF at work to make sure he'll be at the attorney luncheon this wednesday so I have someone to sit next to if no one talks to me.
Just scored a vaccine appt for my Dad and feel like I just handed him the Hammer of Thor but I think he was way more impressed with the LCD tv I got him for his bday tbh

A reporter asked me the other day “have you heard of the storytelling while cooking genre of videos?” I was proud when I answered “I created that genre.” ☺️
Thank you all for your overwhelming support today. I was unprepared for it all but am so flattered I could barely speak all day. Anyhoot, I thought a small addition to my handle was merited. 🤓
Someone (a fellow Asian American) told me that he didn’t realize I was Korean b/c how “dark my skin is” and I am surprised by how much this comment is affecting me.
As a young lawyer, when my next-door neighbor said, “you people are ruining the neighborhood,” I stood rooted to the pavement that joined our homes, and looked her squarely in the face as I said, “What a racist thing to say,” thinking of my father who lived just a few doors down.
I’ve decided to “identify” as Chinese. Coke will like me, Delta will agree with my “values” and I’ll probably get shoes from Nike & tickets to

? Kdrama meets Suits and basically my life story up until about a year ago…. Also I need to update my wardrobe to include more pink suits.
If I have to explain to you the difference between the breach and desecration of the Capitol and the looting of Target, you should take that performative American flag down right now it’s embarrassing
This website has renewed my hope for a country I thought I loved. I thought it would just be a few laughs but these videos are so much more.
@RVAT2020
My husband is a Naumburg winning pianist who recorded his first album at Abbey Road and is quite literally one of the most talented musicians on earth and will be composing music for my YT videos b/c he doesn’t care about how tall my shadow looms b/c he helps to build it.
Y’all…. I can’t even tell you how badly my heart was pounding for the 7 minutes it took for my dad to say anything. Also, this video has over 262k likes on TikTok and it makes me cry thinking of how my dad, the socially awkward nerd, is so beloved. ❤️
It’s been a minute since I’ve done one of these. They are usually tongue in cheek but this one isn’t. I’m not a criminal lawyer (I handle only what’s assigned to me as a member of the trial bar). Some of this was informed by my chat with a felony prosecutor.

For clarity, Avery is my publisher and the management of copycats is an ongoing discussion. They are the most supportive, wonderful, amazing publisher on the planet.

The 3d circuit doesn’t “grant” appeals. You appeal by right. They granted your motion to expedite the briefing schedule. Are you even a lawyer? This is embarrassing for your law school and professors.
My mom told me not to come over for Thanksgiving this year, periodt. Was sad and proud at the same time. So I guess I’ll be making my own japchae, egg rolls, boochimgae, gamja jorim, and Mac n Cheese this year (my standard Thanksgiving fare for years)! 😋😋😋
