DING DING DING. It’s not a culture war; it’s a concerted effort to destroy public institutions that are vital to a healthy democracy. And I’m worried that we’re arguing in defense of specific books or lesson plans instead of arguing in defense of public institutions themselves.

@theferocity It's a scheme to shut down anything public -- schools, public parks, libraries -- that creates community and educates a populace, in favor of more money for police, corporations, Evangelical private schools, and billionaires.

White Slave Owners used to beat and kill Slaves AND other whites for teaching slaves to read for that reason. Education/books connect…

@theferocity Libraries are so cool, too. We have a seed library where companies donate extra pollinator friendly seeds or clover etc. I used it to replace the dead non-native grasses. :)

@theferocity As a librarian, I’m heartened to see the support but I’m begging people to be vocal where it matters most, at board meetings, in local government, with their local officials.
