I've been in the room when a client forced a recast because the actor was a "youtube fandubber". I've also been in the room when the client took an actor off the consideration list for being an "abridger". Like it or not "fandubbing" can be harmful to a carrer in the long run.

Actors. Scratch the grill of your mic to test if you are getting signal. DO NOT tap or hit your mic. Not only does this kill the ears of the person on the other end, but it also can harm the internals of the mic. Be nice to your equipment or enginners are gonna do this to you....

Hey #VOtwitter ! So now that Adobe is starting to jump on the AI train... Reaper is a great alternative to Audition. It has versions for PC and Mac. It's a One time purchase of ~70$. (No subscription). Very user friendly and has tons of how-to videos. Also no AI shenanigans 😎

Reaper is a one time purchase of less than $100 (and basically free if you have a current college ID), and is open source. Highly recommend the VO community to jump off Audition and other Adobe related programs. There are alternatives out there.

These were both situations where the actor was more than qualified, but clients saw as a liability. Be careful about what you put your name on. No matter the intentions, fandubs and the like will always be a bad look to certain clients.

Not sure I have any faith that the VG strike is gonna do much considering the precedent this one just set. Because if less than half of all actors aren't gonna have a backbone then you may as well pack it up or learn to get really creative with changes to your contracts.
