New episode of From the Logo is here
Talking key takeaways from the first 3 games of the season:
- some things that will just take time
- other things that I’m more concerned about (it’s the defense)
Aliyah Boston did some great things passing the ball last season.
Regularly took advantage of the attention she saw and made quick decisions with the ball.
Aliyah Boston.
After the double comes it looks like there will be nothing positive from this - but what an incredible find.
Getting Kelsey Mitchell going here would be huge.
Quick takeaways from the Fever exit interviews:
-Aliyah Boston, Christie Sides and Lin Dunn all mentioned that making the playoffs is the goal next season. That’s the target.
-The Fever want to add a veteran free agent with playoff and if possible championship experience.
Caitlin Clark to Aliyah Boston.
The pace of the offense and the involvement of AB feels better this game.
Defensively the team has to find a way to get some stops. A stop.
Rickea Jackson in Tennessee’s game vs Liberty
In 24 minutes: 21 Points (9-18 from the field), 7 rebounds and 2 steals.
Such a versatile player, who scores and impacts the game in many different ways.
I’m starting a podcast.
If you like the Fever or kiwi accents this may be the podcast for you.
I can’t promise there will never be singing, but I can promise this is the most I’ll ever sing.
I’m still floating after the WNBA lottery so I thought I’d try out something new.
SOUND ON 🔉
A quick look at how the off-ball shooting of Caitlin Clark could impact the Fever.
Indiana fevvvvvvvvaaaaa
Caitlin Clark against Purdue.
The throw aheads, the shots off the catch, the step backs, getting into the middle of defenses and finding shooters/runners in transition.
(+ that toss from near half-court)
Against the Dream Aliyah Boston made 12 shots on a season high 22 attempts.
Her willingness to take jump shots really stood out.
To me the best version of the Fever is one where both Boston and NaLyssa Smith are able to punish defenses from inside and outside the paint.
You like this from Aliyah Boston. Uses her body to get where she wants and finishes.
A heck of an introduction to the W for Boston going against the front courts of the Suns and Liberty in her first two games.
@AndrewDBailey
Going from believing that averaging for a SINGLE season might never happen in the modern game - to Westbrook averaging one over the last five seasons is wild. The man always competes.
In pregame media and I just got a “I’m impressed you saw that” from Christie Sides for a question I asked.
I will now go and float around for the rest of the day.
This is good basketball! The ball goes to Aliyah Boston who is able to turn and see past the double. She’s so good at making the right decision. Great pass by Kristy Wallace and finish by NaLyssa Smith.
WE DID IT! NUMBER 1!
NEW WORDS ON THE BLOG.
On how Caitlin Clark fits what the Fever like to do and how she could elevate the offense to a different level.
NaLyssa Smith today:
29 PTS, 11-19 shooting (57.9%), 12 REB, 5 OREB and 4 AST.
According to
@WBBTimeline
- Smith is the youngest player in WNBA history to finish a game with at least 25 PTS, 10 REB, 5 OREB and 4 AST, while shooting 55% or better.
With that said, much like the last two years, you’ll be getting extensive WNBA coverage on
@dunkerspotpod
!
If you’re trying to get into the league for the first time, or just want to go deeper on the Xs & Os side, we’re the pod for you.
The very first episode of From the Logo is here.
I spoke briefly about each of the offseason roster additions and how they could impact the team.

I’m really excited to see what Bruce Brown looks like in the Indiana Pacers offense.
Brown’s ability to find space, plus Tyrese Haliburton’s ability to create passing lanes is a wonderful partnership.
And them on the break together is fun.
I’ve got a new blog post coming pregame tomorrow on Lexie Hull’s offensive growth this season.
But before that here is a collection of some of her top defensive plays.
It’s been fun to watch her take each and every challenge.
I’m thinking about defense in the WNBA (and basketball in general really) and I couldn’t help but go back and listen to
@NekiasNBA
and
@stevejones20
talking with Brittney Sykes on the Dunker Spot pod.
Let’s go. NaLyssa Smith is close to returning and may be back tomorrow.
I’m looking forward to seeing how the Fever finish the year. There’s still more than a quarter of the season to go, and lots of room to grow.
I saw this and wondered who the last player was to have a usage rate over 35.0 and be drafted number 1.
It was A’ja Wilson.
Wilson’s last season at South Carolina:
22.6 PPG
11.8 RPG
35.6 Usage rate
15.5 FGA
54.2 FG%
54.2 EFG%
46.5 PER
looking at Caitlin Clark's numbers and listen, I'd want the ball in her hands as much as friggin possible
31.3 ppg (1st)
7.6 apg (3rd)
48.4 assist rate (3rd)
40.5 usage rate (3rd)
22.3 FG attempts per game (1st)
48.5 FG%
59.5% Effective Field Goal
46.6 PER (6th)
Nekias and
@stevejones20
of the Dunker Spot are some of the best in the world at what they do. And now they are sharing the good stuff with tik tok too? We have arrived.
If Karlie Samuelson has 1,000,000 fans, I am one of them.
If Karlie Samuelson has 100,000 fans, I am one of them.
If Karlie Samuelson has 100 fans, I am one of them.
If Karlie Samuelson has no fans, I am no longer on this earth.
Allie Quigley. Flamethrower.
With the win in the first round of HORSE today seemed like the ideal day to add to the WNBA education.
The shot goes up quick, it goes down 42% of the time from 3 and that 2018 3 Point competition - my goodness.
New episode of From the Logo is here.
Looking at the game vs the Dallas Wings and Caitlin Clark’s debut.
Due to popular demand my wife is back for another end of podcast chat.

Aliyah Boston has had some incredible stretches of play for the Indiana Fever.
But what she did in the final five minutes of regulation vs the Chicago Sky may be her most impressive to date.
I grabbed some clips and wrote about it.
NEW BLOG POST
I was sure I remembered Kelsey talking about making quick decisions. And sure enough, from last season.
Steph’s quote from one of his camps "I'm catching & shooting, I'm catching & ripping, or I'm catching & giving it up. If you hold the ball for one second, that's a grenade,
Caitlin Clark finished last night with 12/8/6 shooting 4/12 from the field and 2/9 from 3. While not her most efficient shooting night, she played an effective floor game.
Christie Sides spoke about her shot selection and habits they’re trying to get her to break from college.

Over the weekend, The Indiana Fever played their final preseason game of the season. So Aliyah Boston post play thread? Aliyah Boston post play thread.
Great cut by Erica Wheeler, great find by Aliyah Boston.
What a win for K-State. Even when they got down it never felt like they were out of it. Just kept things close enough till they could take the lead.
Did a fantastic job on Caitlin Clark all game. I was surprised by how effective the drop coverage was to start.
It’s training camp time!
NEW BLOG POST
Features an individual section for each of the 15 players at camp + a final roster prediction.
If you are new to the Fever or just want a refresher on the team, this is for you.
We are so back.
With the end of the Fever season comes the end of my first season of blogging.
I wanted to finish this season by writing about someone who meant and still means so much to me.
In memory of Toni. Though she recently passed away, she’s still with us.
With 11 games to go the Fever are now 5.5 games out of eighth place. Barring a historic run they have all but secured the top lottery odds for the 2024 WNBA draft.
Also the Aces are absurd.

As always Nekias is spot on.
This was a staple of the Fever offense last season and allowed them to involve AB, NS and KM in the same action.
Now they get to add CC to it too.
The Fever are going to be able to run some fun stuff with their personnel. This one caught my eye in real time.
High PnR while Caitlin is setting a cross screen for NaLyssa; looks like Caitlin is coming off a screen from Aliyah after that.
Lot of options if the timing's right.
"Pineapple represents stability, stay[ing] together, teams make runs, life happens, but it's still pineapple."
the squad explains how "pineapple" became their new go-to word after a recent team meeting. 🍍
