Every Ohioan can be proud tonight - Issue 1 was rejected by a huge majority - by Democrats, Independents, and a lot of Republicans too. Issue 1 was an undemocratic power grab and a huge waste of taxpayer money and time. But Ohio stood up and said no.

Today, early voting started in the August 8th special election. There’s one thing on the ballot - Issue 1 - which would raise the threshold for citizen-driven constitutional amendments to 60%, making it harder for Ohioans to amend the constitution. I voted no.

For months, Republican leaders in Ohio have refused to draw fair state legislative maps. Last night, the Ohio Supreme Court rejected those maps for the 3rd (!!!) time, delaying the May primary. Gov. DeWine, Sec. LaRose, & others won’t stop rigging the process. It’s shameful.

Last night, Akron City Council voted 7-6 to approve the sale of the White Pond property for development. I voted no, because of the hundreds of residents who have reached out - many of whom oppose the project and many who feel their questions and concerns have been dismissed.

Under, Gov. @MikeDeWine ’s leadership, his public utilities commissioner took a huge bribe to help pass a billion dollar bailout for FirstEnergy (which the governor signed into law). Instead of demanding accountability, Gov. DeWine’s response is more of the same. Vote @nanwhaley .

Yesterday, APD dispersed a protest on Copley Rd using pepper spray and tear gas. One video - - shows police using pepper spray, not in urgent self-defense, but in an almost casual way. This behavior is unacceptable.

I just want to take a moment to recognize the work of @MyNrhindi @AbbeyMarshall @hcomeriato and @rozmurph for @akrondevilstrip - I’ve directly witnessed them report on urgent community issues during a pandemic & racial justice uprising. That work will be part of Akron’s history.

This morning, I got in my mom’s Honda Accord (which just hit 200k), drove down to the BOE, and voted a ballot with my name on it. Over the last year of this campaign, I’ve tried to practice gratitude and find joy in the process. Thanks so much folks (and please get out and vote)!
