This is why the media is just hopelessly hackable. Any story or claim, no matter how dumb, has to be covered, has to be debunked and therefore dignified. It’s a broken model that’s been weaponized by bad faith actors. And it just keeps going.

Cling to a story about the world long enough and eventually something has to go: the story or reality. Most of the time it’s reality.

I always struggled with the Christian notion of vicarious redemption because it’s such a strange moral logic. This is odd for similar reasons. Feeling shame for an entire “race” is wasted energy. Denounce what happened. Right the wrongs. This is impotent theater.

There are tons of asymmetries between the parties, but one of the big ones is that Republicans want to win power and Dems want to win arguments

It truly is strikng to watch Democrats immediately spin a win into a loss and Republicans spin a loss into a win.

@chrislhayes I’d put it differently. I’d say Trump was “fundamentally” the product of a Republican base that is itself largely a media creation.

Nothing is more infuriating than watching the press continue to treat this president, a fundamentally bad faith actor, like they would any other president. That model doesn't work, has been hacked, & it's absurd that these sterile, dangerous, unthinking takes are still possible.

The problem is that elected office is nothing but a media grift for an entire generation of conservative politicians

I mean this quite earnestly: I think the country and our politics would be a lot better off if Cruz and Gaetz et al just left elected office and did media full time. No shame in it!

I'm a broken record on this, but I'll keep saying it: I agree w/ @ThePlumLineGS but the party that's untethered to material reality and unchecked by a basic commitment to truth is going to win the narrative battle in this asymmetric media environment

The wisest move McMorrow makes is saying plainly & forcefully that no one insults the intelligence of Republican voters more than Republican politicians. Simple, assertive, concrete, rejects GOP framing. This is the way. Strong piece by @ThePlumLineGS
