16 years ago tonight, I went to a yoga class in NYC. The instructor randomly placed my mat next to a young woman. She said hi. Afterwards, we had dinner and fell in love. We're now married with 2 kids. Sometimes the most pivotal moments in life happen when you least expect it.

One day Picasso was sitting at a cafe. He drew a sketch on a napkin. A lady recognized him and asked how much she could pay for the napkin. Picasso said $20,000. The lady was shocked, β€œBut it only took you two minutes to draw.” Picasso replied, β€œNo, it took me my whole life.”

I’ve officially been sucked down into crypto vortex 🀯 It’s going to be so much bigger than I initially thought. There’s endless territory to explore and it still feels so early. The next 20 years are going to be wild.

My parents got divorced in 1986. I just went out to dinner with the both of them for the first time in 35+ years. Talk about a mind fuck.

One of the most useful exercises you can do each morning is to look at your calendar and ask yourself: Am I moving closer towards or further away from my goals and who I truly want to become?

I am so proud of my wife and her company @TheSill for closing a $5M Series A and building a real brand that customers genuinely love. I have no doubt the best days lie ahead because Eliza is an execution machine and plants make people happy.πŸŒΏπŸŒ΅πŸƒ

I decided to reset my β€œfollowing” count to 0 and I am slowly rebuilding my feed. This has become a ritual for me every summer. What we consume has a direct impact on our mental state and perspectives. Slowing down and changing the feed is cathartic and refreshing. I needed it.

Today I celebrate 5 years of sobriety. This is one of my proudest accomplishments. Sobriety is a superpower. I wrote this post about my 1st year of recovery but never published it. May it inspire you to create the life you've always wanted.

Someone should make this podcast: The Day I Quit My Job β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” It chronicles the stories behind people who decided to quit their jobs, what happened, and how it all turned out. It’s in a genre of podcasts I call β€œlife porn.”

Over the last six months, I've been seeing a noticeable increase in seed-stage companies with fully or partially distributed teams. More teams are trying to hedge against limited supply of talent and rising costs in cities like SF, NYC, LA. Feels like a real trend.

2 yrs ago, I wanted to raise a micro fund and coach. The idea combined VC & leadership development. I let fear get in my way. I quit before I even started. I’m now pursuing a variation of that idea. I’ve never been happier, more confident. Realizing your calling can take time.

A useful skill I’ve been trying to sharpen: When someone is talking, don’t think about the follow up question or comment. Instead, focus intensely on what the person is expressing (verbally + non-verbally) and then simply go with what wants to emerge when they are finished.

Can some explain why Ivy League Schools are receiving ~$44M from the CARES Act? Columbia: $12.8M Cornell: $12.8M Harvard $9M Yale: $7M Princeton: $2.5M All of these institutions have multi-billion dollar endowments that are essentially tax-free πŸ€”

Reviewing over 100 intern applications tonight. Asking the candidates for a "personal pitch deck" and a 2.5min video has helped me gather vastly more data points than a LinkedIn profile or resume could convey. 1000x more efficient and impactful. More companies should do this.
