We work on non-public projects. We can't build in public, share screenshots, and our GitHub graphs are empty. This is how it is with most development jobs.
If your new job/company provides you a laptop make sure you do not use it for any personal projects. They might be able to claim ownership of your project.

So called "soft skills" are so important. Attitude, proactivity, empathy make a huge difference. Computer/tech/software can easily be learned.
Always open to network and help. Feel free to follow and DM me if you want to connect. 20+ years in software dev/tech, opened businesses, managed projects/people and up-to-date full stack (.net core/blazor/vue/sql), devops (azure). Want to chat/network? Check inside below:
I had a few chats with people that are close or burned out. New devs mostly. Keep in mind you have a life. You don't need to code every day. You don't have to network. You can decide to focus on one thing without creating artificial pressures for yourself.
Air fryers seem to be universally liked, this makes me a little paranoid about getting one. Like joining some kind of cult.
Did anyone buy one, hate it, and throw it out the window?
I see a lot of people starting their freelancing journey. A word of advice, be prepared to provide an estimate and ask questions. It isn't the client's responsability to tell you their budget.
I don't usually post about this. One of the best bosses in my career was the focus of the docu series on Netflix & HBO, The Staircase. She was murdered, by her husband when i worked for her.
Kathleen was extremely supportive, empathetic & intelligent. Overall very sad story.
I really do love waking up and making breakfast for everyone. I don't post it everyday but do it everyday. Today's menu is french toast, melon and avocado.
Humans first.
Lots of friends getting Covid now. I hope everyone takes it seriously. Covid gave me tachycardia (elevated heart rate), high blood pressure and still don't taste sweet very well. It is no joke.

There are so many awesome people here on Twitter that I met or interact with. Also a bunch of weirdos that don't overshadow the awesome ones. You both know who you are. 👽🥃
Several of my friends here had some really big successes lately. Every time I hear good news it is so awesome plus I'm happy they feel comfortable enough sharing with me. All in the tech space.
Keep it going, I hope good things are happening in your world.
Big fan of celebrate more not less. Today, my son, Mateo, turns two, so extra celebrations are in order.
🥳🥳
There will be cake and presents and more presents, The celebration is post nap. 😜
Client: Can you build X,Y,Z?
SB: Are you sure as A,B,C would add more value to this process
C: I am sure. Only want X,Y,Z
SB: A,B, and C would be better.
C: 100% only X,Y,Z
[ Builds X,Y,Z ]
C: This doesn't work well. Can you build A,B,C?
SB: Yes!

I always mention this to the dev 100 people when we chat. Make sure you familiarize yourself with two tools/processes: Git (via github is fine) and any Project Management System. I like
@clickup
but the important piece is you understand this is a process/workflow.
A little about me. Worked in the following industries as a Software Engineer:
* Consumer electronics
* Defense Contractor
* Telecomm
* Restaurant
* Agency / Software Dev Shop
* Oil & Gas
The most fun was the restaurant. We had a keg in the kitchen.
What about you?
There is a difference between gatekeeping and activities that increase your odds of success.
You have to have a side project to be a developer == Gatekeeping
Having a project that you can show/discuss in an interview == increase your odds of success
I can't think of any suitable reason someone immediately asks you in a DM how old you are. Maybe cultural but just throws off the vibe. Happened two times recently.
I'm introverted but never had a problem making friends in my 20's, 30's or 40's. I see all these posts about how hard it is and wonder if it is a function of growing up without communication electronics except for walkie talkies and wired phones.
Software dev is not always a happy place. It is full of frustrating experiences.
Building software can be fun but it is monotonous too.
Senior devs don't need the internet to do their job.

Software engineering has little to do with the framework and language.
Software engineering can be an art and a science
Software engineering isn't for everyone
I've been in the tech industry since 1997. Yes, you read that right. Will that be in my tombstone. Nope. My conciseness will be uploaded to a computer but I digress. Very few people or programs or boot camps talk about the holistic aspects of our field.
My wife is taking care of a big kid and a little one hence the cake. Not a crab cake, taco cake, beef cake, but a chocolate cake, the best kind. Filled with fudge and manjar blanco.
Changed the Twitter feed to show most recent and noticed I miss most of the tweets from people I used to see and interact with. Don't know the right answer here but neither of these two options are optimal.

Twitter is a magical place. Besides maybe on the street and at the office where else can you meet a bunch of new people, collaborate on projects and share about your life?
Thank you to everyone who's reached out, shared and been there. Y'all are awesome.
