Sadness, pride...and hope. I felt these things at @TEDWomen when I spoke about @solaafghanistan and all Afghan women: what we've endured, what we'll build, and the future we'll create. It's an honor to know you're with us, and that you won't look away.

In March 2002, after the fall of Taliban, thousands of Afghan girls were invited to go to the nearest public school to participate in a placement test because the Taliban had burned all female students’ records to erase their existence. I was one of those girls. 1/6

Today marks the beginning of #Kwibuka30 . 30 years since the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. As Rwandans of course know, but as other readers might not, the word “Kwibuka” is a Kinyarwanda word. It means “To Remember.” This August will mark three years since @solaafghanistan

This is the bag she brought. The emotion in me is so real. She's an #Afghan girl, a refugee, far from family but she'll have sisters at SOLA. I cannot thank @UNmigration enough for their continuing partnership. More girls are coming, and we'll announce 2023 admissions soon.

I am deeply inspired by Professor Jalal and his bravery. And I feared for his safety since his interview. His arrest should alarm the int’l community about the Taliban’s intentions. It must alarm the Taliban more so about their inability to govern. #FreeJalal

It has been an emotionally draining few days as I watch Afghan girls' dreams crush by the weight of a broken promise. In this new piece for @PostOpinions , I reflect on my first day ever at an Afghan public school 20 years ago as I feel the pain of young Afghan girls.

If schools reopen in March for Afghan girls, it will be a symbolic “win” at best. For most girls, the obstacle are too many to overcome. We’ve an opportunity & obligation to fight for all Afghan girls. One way to accelerate girls’ access to school: all-girls boarding schools.
