Got asked to go on TV today to debate whether we landed on the Moon.
While I support media coverage of space, this is unacceptable as a discussion in 2018. More needs to be done to improve STEM literacy for journalists.
It is not ok to debate science fact.
Some perspective.
This is the furthest image ever taken of our Earth.
Photographed by Voyager 1, from a distance of 6 billion km.
That tiny dot in the photograph is all of us. Everything we have ever know is but a speck in the cosmos.
59 years ago today, Yuri Gagarin became the first human to leave Earth and travel to space.
After an eternity confined to Earth, we took our first small steps into the vastness of the Cosmo.
Today, we are still only just beginning to scratch the surface of what is out there.
Two incredible space images to start of 2019.
The farthest object a spacecraft has ever visited - Ultima Thule.
The closest image of the Far Side of the Moon.
Ad astra.

This month we are returning to the Moon.
Roll out for Artemis 1 is expected Nov 4, with the first launch attempt Nov 14.
(Yes, I have been saving this photo since the last launch attempt!)
This photo turns 53 years old today.
Earthrise. Captured by the crew of Apollo 8.
An image which forever changed our view of the world and help us understand how fragile our planet really is.
46 years ago today Apollo 17 became the last mission to land humans on the Moon.
People havenβt returned since 1972.
Gene Cernan (pictured) - who passed away last year at the age of 82 - is STILL the last person to have walked on the Moon.
The programme mentioned did go ahead with a debate. As those in the science community we have a responsibility to speak out and not feel pressure to fit to a misleading news agenda. We also need to explain to journalists why this is not ok.
61 years ago today we became a space faring species.
April 12th 1961 Yuri Gagarin (aged just 27 years old) become the first person to venture to space.
Today I asked to have the title of my panel changed.
There are 7 billion people on this planet. Letβs not potentially exclude half of them because of language.
Space is for everybody.
The word is CREWED not manned.
Crew dragon launch now moved to Sunday at 7.27pm ET (thatβs 12.27am Monday GMT)
4 astronauts launching to space together for the first time since July 2011.
Whoβs excited?? ππΌββοΈ
THIS is what it feels like to go to space.
I want to experience. I want as many people as possible to experience this.
Incredible video clip from

You did it

and crew.
This is a real photo of a rover landing on Mars, taken using a camera on its βJetpackβ
That space future you were dreaming of?
Itβs here.

100 days until the crew of Inspiration 4 fly to space.
6 weeks until Jeff Bezos flies to space.
A new dawn in exploration beyond Earth is upon us. π

Perseverance isnβt going to Mars alone.
Meet Ingenuity- the Mars helicopter! (Yes you read that right!)
A first for space exploration π
Whoβs looking forward to seeing Ingenuity fly?

Just a reminder there are THREE different missions arriving at Mars this month.
Each from different nations.
The world is reaching for the stars.

Was just asked to βdebateβ a non scientists on a science topic for a tv news show.
Was told the non-science person was needed for βbalanceβ.
A reminder:
It is not βbalanceβ to pit experts against unfounded opinions.
This false equivalency in the media needs to stop.
RIP Bruce McCandless.
Your photo adorned my bedroom wall as a child and still does to this day.
We will continue to explore, inspired by you and so many others.
Hero.
Tonight in the UK there will be two passes of the International Space Station.
Moving west to east at 6.55pm for 4 minutes.
Then again at 8.31pm for 2 minutes.
Lets get everyone looking up!
Just love this image of the surface Pluto. A world beyond the imagination.
There are so many wonders awaiting us, we cannot even begin to imagine what is out there.
We must keep exploring.
A year ago today I walked through Americaβs Gates. Turned left. Became a US Resident and never looked back.
Happy 1 year USA.
So grateful to be here. πΊπΈ
Tomorrow is the day!!!!
The James Webb Space Telescope is launch to space!
Another step forward in transforming our understanding of the cosmos!
Among its many goals is to look back billions of years to some of the first galaxies.

Happy Birthday to the First Man.
Neil Armstrong would have turned 88 today.
The first human to set foot on the Moon. His legacy will outlive all of us.
Ad Astra.

Do yourself a favour.
Step away from your computer and step outside and look up at the stars. β¨
Imagine what else is out there and all the incredible things to come.
When we humans work together we can do great things.
Another Moonwalker, another hero, gone.
RIP John Young.
Of the 12 people who walked on the Moon, only 5 are still alive. Never let those dreams be in vain.
Huge congratulations to the team
@blueorigin
today!
One step closer to passenger flights.
Hope youβre still keeping my seat warm.

Also on this day..
This magnificent, yet complex machine took flight for the first time.
Just twenty years after humans first left Earth, we were flying reusable vehicles.
STS- 1
April 12 1981
The first flight of the Space Shuttle.
52 years ago today we lost the crew of Apollo 1.
However, the deaths of Gus, Ed and Roger helped to ensure the safety of future missions to the Moon.
Their names later being memorialised on the surface.
Their service & sacrifice never to be forgotten.

On Mars the sunsets are blue instead of red.
A blue sunset on an alien world.
Imagine the day when humans get to take in this view and broadcast it back to us all here on Earth.
