RIGHT NOW: Memphis police searching for a child that apparently walked out of her home on Caldwell Ave. and 7th St. Sequoia Samuels was last seen in a light blue shirt, black pants and pink house shoes. She also has a feeding tube on the left side of her stomach.
Riding along with Tennessee Highway Patrol this morning for a story on their recruitment efforts. The Memphis THP district currently has 15 troopers. They’d like 50. Starting salary of $65K and a $10K bonus if you choose to work in Memphis.
An individual being detained by Memphis police at the Whitehaven YMCA ribbon cutting while chanting “drag is not a crime.” It came after the individual attempted to interrupt Governor Bill Lee’s address at the ribbon cutting.

NEW: The affidavit says 4-y/o Sequoia Samuels has been dead for weeks. MPD says Samuels’ mother, Brittany Jackson, told MPD she lied about Samuels being missing. She reportedly told MPD her boyfriend, Jaylon Hobson, beat Samuels week prior and they had been storing her dead body
Tamia Taylor, 21, remains missing as of Monday morning. It’s been more than a week since Taylor reportedly got on a midnight Memphis riverboat cruise but did not return with the boat. Know anything? Contact Memphis police.

Indicted, booked and BONDED OUT all in under 24 hours — 4 of the 5 former MPD officers charged with murdering Tyre Nichols are out on bonds. Demetrius Haley is the only one who remains at 201 Poplar this morning.
Lots of activity at 201 Poplar today, following the booking of 5 MPD officers involved in the Tyre Nichols death investigation. Memphis police officers tell me they’re continuing to patrol the court/jail areas.
Demonstrators currently laid on the street in front of Memphis City Hall protesting there be more resources available for homeless and disabled people amid severe weather in the city. This follows the death of a man in Midtown last Friday amid below-zero temps.

Remembering Dr. King:
Fifty-five years ago today, our nation was rocked. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was shot and killed in Memphis at the National Civil Rights Museum, previously known as the Lorraine Motel. Today, we remember him and his contributions to our country.

Preliminary hearing reset for Oct. 18 for Ezekiel Kelly. Prosecutors say 3 witnesses were subpoenaed to testify in court today. Those witnesses did NOT show up. Judge Karen Massey says subpoenas for their arrests will be issued for the next court date.
