Today was really hard. After a long, happy, and healthy life we said goodbye to Doppler. He was the sweetest boy and best companion you could ask for. I’ll miss him very much and treasure the 13 years I had with him. Give your pup an extra hug tonight. ❤️
Incredible video of a tornadic waterspout in Long Island Sound between Orient Point and New London this afternoon. Alastair Cairns shot this on the Cross Sound Ferry and shared it with us.

So proud of Doppler this morning. He’s having a really tough time moving these days (he’s almost 14!) but managed to walk around for a while in the fluff!
Heads up: There's nothing particularly unique about a "bomb cyclone". Almost all of our big storms "bomb out". As for winter hurricane? Ridiculous term. Almost all major nor'easters produce hurricane force winds over the ocean. It's a nor'easter... nothing new.

This was the highlight of the week. Thanks to all the scientists, researchers and others who have worked so hard to deliver an incredible vaccine so quickly. Science truly is incredible. 💉 💪🏼
This is disgusting. Rachel is a fantastic meteorologist and a good friend of mine from college. Connecticut is lucky to have her and the people trolling her with sexist garbage are pathetic.
I am lucky to have a career I love. But this week has been challenging. I’m on day 8 of work. Missed my cousin’s wedding. Now I’m getting venomous messages insulting my intelligence and my appearance. I’m “pathetic,” “dumb,” “sensationalist”. “A blonde that won’t stop talking.”
Gotta love the people complaining on Facebook that mentioning the possibility of wintry weather next weekend "ruins people holidays" and "we should stick to tomorrow". It's literally our jobs to forecast the weather... if you're not interested in a forecast just use a window.
I have no idea why meteorologists have such a problem with Groundhog Day (some NWS offices were tweeting things like trust us... not a groundhog). Of course it's silly but it's fine to have a little fun and embrace a bizarre tradition. Have a sense of humor.
COVID-19 is surging back through Europe and a curfew has been put into place in Paris and other cities. in France Maximum gathering size set to 6 per

.
Today I got a coffee, went to Home Depot, and went to the gym. Mask compliance again was 100%. Great to see so many in Connecticut listen to public health experts and do their part to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Social distancing from here on out and doing the weather from home. Thank goodness for technology and a good WiFi connection. See you from my house at 4, 5, 6, 7, and 11 p.m. (who knows maybe the dog will make a guest appearance??)

Of all the places I thought I’d be helping plan hurricane coverage from! Flying back to CT shortly and the whole team is working around to clock to keep you informed and safe. Tune in on air and on line and we will be there to help every step of the way.

Well this made for a boring birthday. Symptoms were very mild with a cough, loss of smell, and a lot fatigue. Feel pretty good now and will work from home for a couple days while I finish my quarantine. I’m so thankful I was vaccinated and my symptoms were minimal.

@bobmaxon
and the rest of the team who make the job fun and easy. Thanks to you at home for trusting us through all the snow, tornadoes, and hurricanes.
In the last 117 years it has reached 70F just 7 times during the month of February in the Hartford area. 4 of the 7 have happened in the last 5 years. Climate change in action, folks.

I’m amazed how many people on Facebook still are commenting that either this is a hoax or H1N1 was worse and this is just the flu. The amount of disinformation out there is stunning and it’s sad to see.
Staggering. 96F in Windsor Locks breaks the daily record by 14F and ties the record for warmest April day. At 3 p.m Windsor Locks was the warmest spot in the entire United States.
Have received far more complaints about a storm update during d*ck in a box than any other weather update I've done in 15 years. Here's the digital short on YouTube in its entirety!!!!
The M7.1 quake means yesterday's earthquake was a foreshock to today's bigger quake. All part of the same sequence. A M7.1 is 11x more powerful than a M6.4.

One thing I'm thinking after this morning's disaster... we need the state DOT to stop operating in a black box. If it's true pre-treatment wouldn't work (I'm not sure that's the case) then why weren't they telling us that ahead of time? Would have been useful to communicate!
A friend who's a meteorologist down south asked me how I deal with snow hype a few times a year. Quite simple. Never look at the Facebook comments and use noise cancelling headphones at work.
Such a bittersweet night saying goodbye to
@KaitlynMcGrath
who’s leaving for DC. Kait has been a wonderful teammate, friend and meteorologist over the last 6 years. We will miss her very much but couldn’t be any happier for her taking the next step in her career.

Stop hyping the heat and the hell with the heat index. Temperature is enough. Allow people to make their own judgement without predisposing them to being hot.
Winter may be on borrowed time. Euro weeklies showing an all out torch for February. If we can't capitalize on the cold the next 10 days there will be some very angry snow lovers on this website.

Fusion has always been the holy grail. Seems like a pretty big deal to see that they've finally been able to do it - even if it is decades away.
Looks like Connecticut will have administered ~650,000 first doses by this weekend or about 25% of adults in the state. Next week we'll get 100,000 first doses. Things are picking up!
I'm not sure I've ever seen FLASH maxed out like this over such a large area in the NE US. This is a life-threatening flood event for NYC and it is shifting northeast into Fairfield County now.

8 years ago this was our snow forecast... and we were a bit low! I still remember going over the maps and models with
@bobmaxon
the days prior and we couldn't believe what we were seeing. What a storm it was.
#nbcct
Good news along the Connecticut shoreline. Winds are offshore (out of the north) which will limit the storm surge threat. Especially west of the mouth CT River I think we will be in pretty good shape.

Check out this awesome video from Brad Olt in Branford. He was out fishing Sunday morning when the earthquake hit. You can hear the loud boom in this GoPro video.

If you told me I'd be doing the weather from my home office for the foreseeable future because of a pandemic a few months ago I would say you were crazy. But here we are! Be safe, social distance, and stay healthy! We'll be here to keep you informed every step of the way.
