Aboriginal flag now can be used by anyone. That’s great. However has anyone else got a problem with Morrison’s statement “We’ve freed the Aboriginal flag for Australians”? “Freed” it? THEY freed it? There’s something insidious about the framing to my ear… Or am I being harsh?🧐

First Nation artists controlling & earning from their work is the issue. How long till Aboriginal flag beach towels made in China for white companies fill supermarkets next to Aussie thongs? The senate inquiry recommended a FN panel oversee its use but this was rejected.

Definitely. The first thing i thought of was board shorts. And I’m in 2 minds. On one hand it’s appalling. But on another, it fits our culture. 🤷♀️

i would love to see the aboriginal flag as the australian national flag , but that would solely depend on if our first nation's people would bestow that honor on us

In my opinion any flag representing Australia has to include all of us - Aboriginals, colonisers, immigrants - everyone. It needs to recognise our history as well as our shared future. I like this one the best.
@roseg
As a non-indigenous person my concern is the flag, once bought, wasn’t given to an appropriate Indigenous organisation for USE and safe keeping.
I have no right to be using that flag/image. WTF was the Govt. thinking of? Now “Mr. Freddy” t-shirts can start making $$.

It’s so iconic that it belongs in the public domain. I think that any representation, even on beach towels, will promote Aboriginal culture and the need for reconciliation.
