it’s almost impossible to explain to people what an enormous breath of fresh air Will Clark breathed into Giants org the moment he came to it. Turned a tired and sour place everybody wanted to leave into something special. One of the truly pivotal people in
#SFGameUp
history
It’s amazing to me that Rob Manfred and
@MLB
have spent theee years talking about trying to connect w young audiences and
@PitchingNinja
has just done it. Nothing Manfred’s talked about has a fraction of a percent of the impact Rob is having on a daily basis to market & grow game
Carson Whisenhunt, making his Triple-A debut today, has retired 9 of first 10 batters with 6 K. He has 12 whiffs on 19 swings, including 7 of 7 on the changeup!
I hear Bryce Eldridge hit a walk off Grand Slam in minor league camp last night. Really heating up as Break Camp day approaches. Sky high offensive potential
Catching depth chart for Giants looks like it's going to be Bart in SF, Genoves in Sac, Auerbach in Richmond, Bailey in Eugene and Sugastey in San Jose and I have to say, I'm not sure there's another organization in MLB who can truly match that 5-level combo.
Which is worse exactly, the whatever rhe hell went on with the Giants that caused them to back out of a deal they absolutely had to make, or the total lack of accountability they’ve shown to Public w two days of silence since then? Both hint at an underlying issue in org culture
#SFGiants
3rd round pick from last year, Mason Black, had a very loud outing today, striking out 6 of 8 batters he faced, throwing a very easy 96-98 and hard biting slider. Finished it off winning tough battle against Cubs
#11
prospect James Triantos on a slider
Marco Luciano finished AFL on an up note, with 7 hits over his final 17 AB including a monster HR and a lot of hard contact. Nice way to end a tremendous year!
Actively making it harder for people to care about your organization is a very strange business strategy.
There are an awful lot of incredible people in this org, behind the scenes and in front, people of passion, talent and dedication.
But something feels unmoored at the top
Kyle Harrisons' fastball generated a lunatic 65% whiff rate last night! Half of his 61 pitches were either called or swinging strikes. In 3 starts vs OKC Dodgers, he's allowed one hit, while striking out 24. That's pretty good!
I have 3 v important things to say about Bob Melvin.
1) Roger Craig thought so highly of Melvin's baseball acumen that one of the first things he did after becoming Giants manager was insist the club acquire Melvin from Detroit. Direct connection to the Humm Baby himself? Good!
Marco Luciano getting his double header started right. First he lined a double into corner off of big leaguer Mychael Givens and now he blasts a 432’ HR way out to batters eye in CF.
Giants love Ryan Reckley. Switch hitting SS. + athlete, + speed, + bat, + defender, great makeup, worker, great attitude on and off the field. Special kid
Back in 2021, a scout said something about Luis Matos that I've always remembered. Without naming the big leaguer he comped Matos to, he said, He's the kind of guy that fans of other teams will think, oh yeah that guy's good, and fans of his team will say, he's our best player
If this is really going to be end for VERY GOOD GIANT Brandon Belt makes it that much sadder that he took that damned shot off the thumb last Sept and didn't get one more ride in the post-season. Way he was hitting down stretch, hard to believe he wouldn't have changed outcome 😢
Box score just says 0-1 and Marco Luciano's reaction said to me he didn't think he got it, but this was 115 mph off the bat and about 406' into a cross-wind. If that's a "miss-hit" all batters should be so lucky.
“The Giants sent emails to fans who purchased walkway tiles across McCovey Cove … to inform them that their decades-old messages now will be seen digitally at a kiosk.”
Seriously, WTF is going on with the
@SFGiants
right now?

What’s most amazing about the Kid driven run Giants are on is how little upper minors experience these guys have.
Sabol, Schmitt, Bailey and Wisely have played a collective 92 games in Triple A — an avg of just 23 gms!
They live collectively played just 345 gms ABOVE A BALL!
No matter what happens today, issue over rest of yr for Giants is veteran bats need to perform up to track record. Conforto, Yaz, Joc, Craw, Haniger when he returns. There have been a lot of slumping vets last 2 mo. need to pick it up. Even Thairo last mo b4 injury was in slump
Does sort of feel like this is setting up for Giants to grab Walker Martin with 2nd pick, a connection that was widely rumored for their 1st round pick. Getting him in 2nd would be pretty nifty trick.
Keep coming back to 1 thing: simply impossible to believe an 8-yr old injury was such a surprising turn of events for an org that employs, as its 2nd most important Baseball Ops decision maker, a man who spent 7 of those 8 yrs with player in position to have full medical insight
Quite a dinger weekend so far in
#SFGiants
farm:
Will Wilson Homers 4x in 4 AB
Luis Matos homer 3x in 4 days
Marco Luciano has 1st multi-homer game in 2 yrs
Reggie Crawford hits 1st HR of yr
Rayner Arias HRs 2x in 3 games
Giants prospects Casey Schmitt and Patrick Bailey were each awarded Rawlings’ Gold Glove Awards for minor league baseball. Schmitt, who ended year in Triple A might arguably be the best position player prospect in the system at this point. Certainly he’s the closest of top group
Giants top international signing this year, Rayner Arias picked up his first professional hit and first professional home run today in the DSL.
And just for fun, their second highest signee, Yosneiker Rivas ALSO went deep for his first professional home run. Good day!
People keep asking me about the Giants' system "turnaround" and I keep responding that this is and was a mistaken narrative in both directions (last year's supposed back step and this season's supposed turnaround).
What's been the secret to this year's prospect explosion?
Time
Make that TWO HOMERS today for Marco Luciano in his first two at-bats.
Another loud crack of the bat, another blast to left field.

prospect is locked in.
Really sad to hear that
@DannyEmerman
was part of KNBR's layoffs yesterday as well. I don't obviously get to listen to the channel that much, but Danny's beat reporting on Giants was outstanding and he sees clearly a star in the making.
One thing about having both Cobb and now Ray coming back later in year is it gives team latitude to give starts to guys like Beck, Winn, Black, Teng etc without asking any of them to shoulder full year’s SP load which is nice way for young depth to dovetail w competitive roster
Giants officials said for several years they didn't understand why Webb wasn't considered Top 100 prospect. Their confidence in him has definitely been rewarded in 2021. Big strides from kid from Rocklin!
Really sucks that Tristan Beck is losing such a golden opportunity to yet another health issue. He's had a lot of different back issues bother him over the year which has already set him back numerous times. Really worked hard to get to this position.
Just hate to see this
Luis Matos busted out the power stroke against Vegas starter Kyle Muller, coming within a few feet of his first multi-homer game in nearly two years. Matos has homered in back to back games, giving him 6 for the year
So for my bday this year I was informed my time writing Minor Lines for
@McCoveyChron
has come to an end (which I suppose IS giving the gift of time!). I’ve enjoyed all the community and conversation last few years. I’ll have to figure out if I want to keep my hand in it somehow
Not 100% sure but believe I'm catching sight of Marco Luciano in Richmond dugout today.
Wouldn't be a surprising move considering his lost reps and Richmond's lost bodies + Eugene's early triumph. Probably not the only one up either
Vaun Brown's .352 batting average is the highest in full season minor league baseball (there are a few guys in rookie leagues and Dominican league higher).
His .635 SLG is the 4th highest among qualified hitters in full season ball. He's kind of a DUDE!
Only time I ever saw MadBum pitch in the minors live was game in Bowie in 2009, in which he got bombed, hit a guy, started a fight and was thrown out in 2nd inn.
