Delighted & honoured to have received a Highly Commended in the Habitat Category of the 2024
@BWPAwards
Amazing images from all the winners of the competition and it was a brilliant evening in Bristol at the exhibition launch event last night.

One benefit of working from home is that I can go walking with the camera at lunchtime. This crab apple tree is only 2 minutes away and watching the Redwings is such great fun. Here is an image as a bird tries to pick the best fruits and the birds are very picky!
This morning I spent a wonderful couple of hours with this Roe Deer. She has totally accepted me as part of her world and is totally relaxed if I sit quietly nearby. She is nearly always to be found in the same general area which hopefully is a great sign for the weeks to come.
Truly amazing sight of an Osprey eating a fish alongside the A37 this evening (7pm) near Yeovil. Completely un-bothered by the passing traffic.

As the crow flies only 8miles to

maybe a night stop!
What an incredible evening with a couple of
#Cuckoos
recently in Somerset. These
#Cuckoo
are feeding up on the worms in a local field. So there is no baiting or perches provided and they come of go as they please just how I like my wildlife photography.

Having had success with Roe Deer in yellow Oilseed Rape & then in Bluebells, I have taken on my toughest location yet... a Somerset Orchard.
Seeing the Deer through the trees is hard enough, but I hadn't expected to find such an inquisitive Doe who came too close for my lens.
A fabulous encounter with the stunning Bearded Reedlings

#Westhay
.... Very lucky today, even though it was rather grey and damp, as on my last trip I saw none.
Osprey flying right over the boat today having just evaded a White-tailed Eagle. Incredible Spring Safari Cruise from
@harbourbirds
around Poole Harbour on a perfect morning.
On a very wet day in
#Somerset
today here is another image from the local wood with a Roe Deer in the
#Bluebells
taken a couple of days ago. Pure magic and having seen her I opted to leave quickly and quietly to avoid disturbance.
With the rivers bursting their banks in the South West there is always a good chance of spotting otters away from the fast flowing main torrent. So i was well positioned this morning when this happened
Well, I sort of overslept this morning, had to change plans and went for a
#Somerset
river walk. So glad that I did as I was joined by two otters (Mother and Cub) for nearly an hour. 😀

25/03/23 - Very disappointing to see at least 2 climbers on these Portland Cliffs. Cliffs are clearly identified by
@Team_BMC
as having:
"Restrictions apply from 1 March - 30 June.
Reason: Nesting Birds"

What chance for the birds.
Swifts and a Full Moon tonight over my home town in
#Somerset
making a wonderful combination as the sun went down with a hint that Lockdown might be eased slightly next week.
An image from Saturday morning.
A single Oak tree in the middle of a
#Somerset
field and its long shadow so typical of the winter months. The early morning sun has already got to work on the frost except where the shadow falls. 😀

What a glorious Sunday morning and this wren was singing its heart out. The volume was on Maximum. So this is for
#WexMondays
and
#MondayMotivaton
today.
Looks like this might be my last entry for a while as everyone is told to cut out unnecessary travel and I'll have very limited opportunities at home but I might see what I can do.
So here is a Little Grebe and Stickleback for
#WexMondays
today.
What a moment on
@dartmoornpa
this afternoon.
Just standing still watching the world go by when I noticed a small bird land next to me. What a surprise to find it was a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker and it was at eye level, plus she didn't mind me being there at all. 😀
Twitter help required.....
My initial though is that this bird was a Greenshank, however it has a straight bill, so could it be a Wood Sandpiper that has been reported today.
Seen at

yesterday morning
@somersetbirds
many thanks, Robin 😀😀😀
28/03/2019 is going to go down as one of those great days for me. First 5 B-32 Bombers depart RAF Fairford, then a Red Kite & Buzzard appear, later I was with 3 Peregrine Falcons and a rock climbing Fox turned up. A real 😀 😀😀 day
The stunning Immature Male Red Footed Falcon was a delight to watch on
@Quantockhills
@somersetbirds
early this evening (Saturday). I might have had to wait over an hour for it to appear but it was so worth it. 😀

Last week, I was sitting on top of a
#Somerset
hill watching the sunrise from 3:30am when a Yellowhammer started singing from a nearby bush. As the sun appeared the Yellowhammer was revealed. Pure magic & I wish you could hear the song and experience the warm breeze.
Bitterly cold wind on Dartmoor at the weekend, but the Stonechats were still out and about and fliting between perches. Here is a male coming into land ona suitable twig

The squabbles between the Goldfinch and newly arrived Greenfinch have continued today.
