I’ve been angry over the last few years, but this one has really cut to the bone. It epitomises utter contempt for the likes of me. And I suppose, in effect, she’s one of my bosses now. This is my country today. It feels helpless.
Hello
@MattHancock
: when my father in law died; we wanted to hug my mum in law; she needed to feel the touch of another human. At the funeral, she needed a hand to hold; a shoulder to lean on. She wanted her wider family there. We followed your instructions. You are despicable.
My two children are so content : I can hear them in the sitting room watching The Aristocats and giggling away together. THEY ARE 24 AND 28!!!

My mum always told me, if I lost her in the supermarket, to stand still at the end of one of the aisles and she’d find me. Unfortunately, Mr R’s mum had taught him the same, so we both spent about an hour standing still at opposite ends of Tesco yesterday. /1
If you’re finding parenting hard, just remember that, 25 years ago, some mums and dads were camped outside Argos, in the freezing cold, trying to get a Furby.
I’m 3 and a bit years off 60 and some of the tweets I’ve read today about how my age group is perceived are eye-watering. I’ve not had a good innings yet. I’ve not even started.
Be mindful when conflating vulnerable/SEND. Many children with SEND will be much safer at home with their families at this time. An upsetting narrative emerged during last lockdown, which made huge sweeping assumptions about parents of children with SEND.
In response to the weather forecast for next week tweets, I’m pleased it’s going to be nice and sunny:
1. Makes getting up easier
2. Makes the drive more pleasant
3. Makes meet and greet in the playground more enjoyable
4. No wet breaks/lunchtimes
and lastly…
Just been out of the house for first time in a week. Walked to my 85 yr old mum’s house. Stood in her front garden and played Charades through the window. And we laughed and laughed and laughed ... ❤️
A riddle. If school curriculum doesn’t prepare for 21st C jobs that haven’t been invented yet, how can studies report that loss of learning from said curric is going to result in salary loss of £14k p.p?Who has calculated the salaries for the jobs which haven’t been invented yet?
To all of those teachers who told me I wouldn’t achieve anything in life - I’ve just single-handedly put a Superking cover on my duvet and I didn’t even start with it inside out.
My 59 year old, white, pudgy, bikini-clad self is in a queue at the bar amongst gorgeous, twenty-something bronzed beauties. ‘I’m sexy and I know it’ is being played. I dare to sway my hips slightly.

They’ve put men on the moon, we can speak to people face to face when they’re the other side of the world but I’m still always blown away by the fact that the

teams aren’t really sitting on top of each other
Are holiday presents still a thing? I remember going into the gift shop at Butlins with a list of who we had to buy for. Even if we went ‘out for days’ we still had to get my Nan a fridge magnet.
😡 webinar today - reference to high attainers, middle attainers and SEN. Please don’t do this! SEN and low prior attainment are not interchangeable terms.
Schools being blamed for pupil non-participation in remote learning. I predict the next wave of criticism will be around attendance figures when schools re-open
Happy Friday to all you secondary teachers; and if you’re a secondary teacher who’s been doing TAGs AND you have small children, then you are some kind of super hero.
Day 18 - we’re really focussing on improving reading fluency. Children have loved devising a code and using their coloured pens to highlight their texts as we echo read. Lots of previously unconfident children volunteering to read aloud.
I ordered some white, over-sized, linen pyjamas because I wanted to look like Diane Keaton in ‘Something’s Gotta Give’. I’ve tried them on and I look more like the Marshmallow Man in Ghostbusters.
Day 3 - children with sensory needs/ADHD taken to unfamiliar classrooms BRFORE lessons so they can discuss lighting/position of board, etc and choose their optimum space. Little tweaks. Support doesn’t have to cost ££££££

Today I’m going to swallow my pride and return to the motor spares shop where, a few years back, I embarrassed myself greatly when a brake light bulb was handed to me and I responded, “no - I need a red one.”
57 years old, dancing in front of the mirror to No Diggity with a Greggs sausage roll in my hand, and I finally realise what Maslow meant by self-actualisation
As we’re probably going to be in for several weeks, I’ve suggested to Mr R that we swap sides on the sofa just to freshen things up a bit. He’s considering it and has promised to give me an answer by teatime.
RR : So, I have an encyclopaedia at home which I had when I was a little girl. What might be the problem with using this to find information?
Yr 6 : Is it because we might not understand the old-fashioned language; it’s like Shakespeare
It’s been drawn to my attention that, for years, I’ve been trying to sign-post folk to a ‘thread above’ by using this 🖕🏼 instead of this 👆🏼. I apologise unreservedly for my error and any distress this may have caused. Thank you
@davidfawcett27
for alerting me.
When your 23 daughter tells you she has news & she’s not sure how you’ll react, your heart kind of lurches to your throat but I’m pleased to announce I’m now a grandmother. Meet Mo.
What a wonderful scheme, the borrow my doggy thing is. Ellie can’t have a dog as she’s out all day, but she’s got this one in the evenings to help out the owner, who’s not able to walk him. ❤️
Lots of talk about devices, FSM, etc, but we must consider stationery in the home. Lots of fabulous art/craft tasks being posted and showcased online, but how are we making these equitable if child is lacking materials?
Teachers - are you going to have to abandon your classrooms and become nomads as children stay in classroom bubbles? Will you find this tough? Any tips for making this a success? How will it impact on your teaching?
My tips for teaching Shakespeare to children with low prior attainment:
1/ Plot, Plot, Plot : it’s absolutely essential they know the plot well. Begin with an abridged version. This is not dumbing down, this is providing the foundation for further knowledge. /..
Today we open our doors for the final time before permanent closure. Despite the sadness, I know that our fantastic staff will rise to the occasion and make this memorable for all. Let’s go. 💪🏽
I’m reading lots of tweets where folk are giving the caveat “I know there are people worse off but....”. There is no need to apologise; there is no need to feel guilty; there is no need to compare your personal situations to others. It’s ok to feel really sad.
Day 10 : observed a Geography lesson today. The T had anticipated that some of the children with low prior attainment may need an adapted resource (they were using atlases to find locations and then put them on a blank map). Instead of giving the children the adapted map/..
I’ve scrapped the traditional ‘Reading Records’ for recording home reading and have replaced with Google Jamboard. If I blogged, I’d write about it. Such a positive move. Questions welcome below.
Just finished my Latin lesson with
@OakNational
. It’s marvellous, but I do feel a little guilty about getting my evening classes for free. If anyone knows Mr. Furber, please tell him he’s a legend.

At the start of this I was determined to get up, shower, dress, do make up as usual even if not going out of the house. 9:00am and I’ve just had to delay an SLT video conference so I could put some clothes on.
Kids today will never know that feeling you got when you came back from Woolworths, ripped the cellophane off your new album and discovered the lyrics were printed inside the cover
When the teacher leading primary school assembly says, ‘Good Morning, children’; why do ALL children, reply “good morning Mr/s ....; good morning everybody” using exactly the same intonation that they have used for time immemorial. How did they learn how to do this? It’s uncanny.
I went to the Suffolk coast with a couple of friends I’ve known for 50+ years. Stayed in a caravan overnight; shared a bed with my mate & giggled like we used to on sleepovers; she did my hair in the morning like when we were 12. My soul is restored ❤️
Day 6 - SENDCOs may find this helpful. I always photocopy Section F of EHCPs and then cut up each part and stick onto sugar paper and stick on my office wall. I then have ‘working documents’ which can be annotated regularly to provide and ‘at a glance’ reference for APDR. Much /1
I’ve been working in schools for years, and my life (work & personal) flows with established patterns based on the school year: events/features of each half term. This last 15 months has changed that and I think it’s unsettled my equilibrium. Can anyone else relate to this?
Yr 8 pupil - struggles with literacy - shows me his poem, which begins ‘Season of green and joyfulness’
“Miss - I wanted to sound like Keats”
This is why I teach ❤️
I have just learned that a Pelicon crossing is short for Pedestrian Light Controlled Crossing and has nothing to do with pelicans . How did I not know this?
I posted an anonymous letter asking him to meet me in the pub where I worked. We got chatting & he told me about the letter. After a couple of hours looking around for the possible sender, he said he wasn’t bothered about it as he’d fallen for me… ❤️❤️ I owned up eventually
