Remember when the Reds started giving players away, told us it was 'aligning payroll to resources,' it got so bad that
#SellTheTeamBob
trended and sold shirts and billboards and that was BEFORE the team COO suggested we were mere sheep and the team lost 21 of its first 24 games?
Look, suspend Castellanos for two games if you want, but him being the lone player suspended from that entire series of events is just a piss poor attempt at handing down punishment.
A home-run call during the middle of an apology for dropping an awful, offensive slur live on a broadcast from Cincinnati of a fan-free baseball game in Kansas City during a pandemic that was originally postponed for a positive COVID-19 test.
Won't forget this day anytime soon.
After sinking $150 million into the offense over the winter, the Reds have 6 hits over their last two games - and 4 of them are from Matt Davidson and Kyle Farmer, just how it was drawn up.
Joey Votto wrote an op-ed in the
@Enquirer
. “Only now am I just beginning to hear. I am awakening to their pain, and my ignorance. No longer will I be silent.”
#Reds
Cubs starter Zach Davies on Joey Votto gesturing at the Cub dugout after his two home runs. “ He hit a ball out that’s on me.but if there is disrespect that is an issue”
Once they get Castillo and Minor and India and Votto and Fraley and Barrero back this club is going to threaten to threaten playing .480 ball the rest of the way.
You heard it here first.
THIS JUST IN:
Luis Castillo has one of the absolute most filthy arsenals of pitches in all of baseball today - and he's figured out how to use it.
This is a freaking glorious thing to watch develop.
First things first - Stephen Strasburg is a better, more valuable pitcher than Sonny Gray.
Second things second - the 4 year, $38 million deal (plus 2023 option) the Reds signed Gray to last winter looks like a complete heist.
The last thing I'll say before hanging up the spikes for the night:
Don't stop here, Reds. If you're this deep, deal Mahle. Deal Solano, Drury, and Pham, obviously, but deal Mahle, too.
If you're going to punt, kick it 70 yards and pin' em deep, man.
It would appear that David Bell made a helluva decision to pinch-hit Tyler Stephenson right there.
I'm sure it'll be mentioned in the mentions quite often.
Blame Dietrich for hanging over the plate if you will, but two things remain true.
1) the umpires haven't done anything to suggest he stop it
2) he's been hit 5 times in 16 innings in this series
Of course he's pissed.
This Reds team is going to end up with way, way too many memories seared into this stupid brain of mine for winning 85 games and missing the playoffs altogether.
Well, a non-reviewable play just cost the Reds three outs. I'm sure Rob Manfred will respond by raising ticket prices and blacking out a few more fans from watching on TV.
The Mariners announced that Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr., currently a special consultant, has purchased shares in the Mariners franchise and joined the Mariners Partnership Group. He becomes the first former Seattle player to join as a partner.
I do hope the Castellinis can revel in listening to the fans of opposing teams drowning out the half-dozen Reds fans in GABP every single series from here on out.
Kinda want to see Lindor traded to the Reds because inevitably both fanbases would hate the deal and the entire state of Ohio would erupt into a molten bowl of pierogi-filled chili
I am not advocating the Reds should sign Scooter Gennett right this minute, but the temptation for the headline of 'Reds do not sign Zack Wheeler, sign two-wheeler instead' is just too much to not pine for
The Reds have the NL's leader in AVG, the NL's leader in RBI, and the NL's 2nd place OBP guy...and they're three different players.
Unfortunately, the pitching...
There's a ton that's awesome about Nick Senzel, but what jumps off the page at this particular point in his rookie career is that he hasn't homered in over a month (29 G, 103 PA)...
...but has hit .301 with a .363 OBP since then, too. Kid ain't gotta hit homers to be awesome.
He looks healthy, electric, 21 years old, and like he's not been on a professional mound in three years.
That's totally awesome, honestly, and a huge step forward.
Jared Hughes entered play tonight having thrown the 14th most IP by a reliever in all of baseball.
He now has a 0.99 ERA. Given how pricey free agent relievers were last winter, the Reds front office deserves a standing ovation for getting him at 2/$4.5M with an option.
Thanks for following along with us this year.
Thanks for reading, for laughing, for not laughing and letting us know the jokes sucked, for interacting, and for making this one of the few enjoyable aspects of a miserable calendar year.
Go Reds.
I hope the bulk of the Reds strategy this offseason revolves around sitting down with each of the players on the 40-man and making sure they know they're allowed to score runs in innings 2-9, too.
The Reds now have a +23 run differential, which is 2nd best in the Central and 4th best in the entire NL.
So, of course they're 15-20 and dead last in their division.
watching soon-to-be 34 year old Cliff Pennington play 3B everyday over a rookie former 1st round draftee on a team that's 2-11 and knee-deep in year 4/5 of a massive rebuild drives me to drinking way, way more than you driving that hot rod lincoln.
