Wall Street does not like what it has seen from the Entercom layoffs the past two days. Entercom stock closed today at 83 cents a share. Prior to the layoffs it closed on Wednesday at $1.40 a share.
There are so many names of cuts coming in that I can’t keep up. This is heartbreaking, sad, angering and much more for the medium and the industry that so many of us love.
Just looked up a major market CHR that played 29 minutes of commercials within a 60 minute period yesterday in afternoon drive. Perhaps its time to figure out better ways of monetization because the old model doesn’t work anymore with the unlimited competition online.
The next 48 hours are shaping up to include a format change frenzy the likes we haven’t seen in years. Lots of operators who have held off for the past year-plus starting to get their properites in place for post-pandemic growth.
Very well executed farewell and launch at Audacy’s 94.7 New York today. Giving the Country staff chance to do proper farewell is something that needs to be done more often. Where was this for 105.3 SF last week? Block launch package outstanding with station that sounds like NYC.
97.9 The Loop Chicago appropriately signs off with AC/DC’s Highway To Hell as Educational Media Foundation’s K-Love takes over the frequency. Will have audio on
@FormatChange
tomorrow morning.
So this is what radio gets for national publicity nowadays. And people wonder where the perception of the industry as "dying" comes from. How about an industry-wide marketing campaign to attempt to change the perceptions?
Nobody local on the air after 7pm in Market
#3
at iHeart. This is where they’re headed. Hopefully Entercom, Hubbard and Cumulus see the opportunity staring them in the face in Chicago (and others elsewhere) with a roadmap on how to succeed against iHeart.
How many stations were promoting content to run on Facebook/Instagram Live today that should’ve went on a platform the station has control and autonomy over?
Over the last few days we’ve been told of an “unthinkable format change” potentially taking place tomorrow. Now hearing the CEO of said company has arrived in that market.
If someone told you in April that Z100 New York would kick off afternoon drive to start the final weekend of August with Elton John into Kate Bush and there was no drastic format change, what would your reaction have been?
Best wishes to everyone being currently affected by the cuts currently taking place at Audacy. Hoping that it leads to new doors opening for many of the talents affected.
As I wait for my burger to be prepared this restaurant’s music just segued from Bye Bye Bye to Closing Time. Are they changing formats and about to serve me a pizza?
@clydetombaugh
@kroq
In retrospect they should’ve moved you guys to Jack 4-5 years ago. The current numbers should rebound once people are back in cars, but how much is the question. The PR handling of Kevin’s firing will be hard to overcome with people being away from their radios for so long.
iHeartMedia’s three Houston FMs have issued apologies for inadvertently airing commercials for Dicks Sporting Goods congratulating the
@astros
on prematurely winning the World Series.
Just listened to a podcast that totaled 40 minutes of content and over 10 minutes of commericals. That’s probably not the part of radio you want to replicate...
After two years with ABC News Radio, Hubbard’s
@WTOP
Washington DC has re-affiliated with
@CBSNewsRadio
. WTOP had been a CBS affiliate dating to the 1920s prior to dropping it at the start of 2018.
There are very few stations that were as important in the last 30 years as 99X Atlanta. If Cumulus does what we're hearing will be part of tomorrow's relaunch, it has the potential to bring lapsed listeners back to the FM dial at a time when that is becoming harder to do.
Lots of stations went all Christmas today including:
WDZH Detroit
KSWD Seattle
KYXY San Diego
WMOV-FM Norfolk
WPLW/W225DF Raleigh
WTSS Buffalo
WSPA-FM Greenville
WARM-FM York
WROZ Lancaster
WWFW Fort Wayne
WPLZ-HD2/W295BI Chattanooga
WFXD-HD4/W291CJ Marquette
I've heard hundreds of format changes over the years (over 1000 I have archived on
@FormatChange
alone). Considering the heritage and history of KGO, this is one of the most brutal I've heard.
I visit
@RudyGiuliani
as I'm working to support his son

show done live in his bathroom. We agreed that Adams has done nothing about crime in 5 weeks
Good morning to all the radio professionals posting their Spotify top songs. Imagine if they had an outlet where they could share and promote their favorite music with others.
Is a personality, who could potentially be considered one of the most popular to ever be heard in that market, about to make a big comeback?
#RumorMill
Whomever at iHeartMedia Louisville was reponsible for this yesterday in response to our Domain Insight report deserves a huge Christmas bonus and realizing there’s still fun to be had in the rumor mill.

Hey
@Jeopardy
, somehow on your

episode tonight you managed to get both a question and answer wrong.
@RyanSeacrest
didn’t start his career in Los Angeles (It was
@Star941Atlanta
) and Dick Clark didn’t start his in Philadelphia (Utica and Syracuse first)
I’ve known
@djgrooves
since we were teen posters on my Mid-Atlantic Radio Board and he was hosting the only Hip Hop show in the market on a college station. Two decades later, he just fulfilled his lifelong dream and launched the first 24/7 Hip Hop station in his hometown.
In 2003, 1380 WKDM New York (a station I’m sure 99% have never heard of) sold for $45 million.
In 2019, 770 WABC New York (long ago the MOST famous radio station in the country) sold for $12.5 million.
This is the truth about AM Radio in 2019.
On its final day, Cox’s “Power 95.3” WPYO Orlando paying tribute to its history currently replicating the music of its Dance “Party 95.3” era in late 90s.
Wait what's this? A marketing campaign in 2020 that actually makes radio look important, innovative, exciting, trendy, etc... Of course its for the UK and not the US, but
@iHeartMedia
,
@Entercom
or
@nabtweets
please take note to replicate...
We proudly introduce our brand-new Global ad campaign which, for the first time, brings together our breadth of brands & personalities, special moments, our outdoor portfolio and Global Goodness, all set to the music of ‘Radio Ga Ga’ by Queen.

As I sit hear listening to the sign-off of “Fun 101.3” WROZ Lancaster ahead of its sale to EMF, can we as an industry not save the on-air tributes to stations for their deaths? Pay honor to your station’s history. Bring back people from your past 1/
Sadly we hear that there are still markets where cuts are forthcoming. It is amazing how iHeartMedia is dragging this out keeping existing employees worried about their futures.
It's amazing how a format change stunt that we in the industry know happens plenty of times per year around the continent took on a life of its own. This entire story is a work of fiction based on a false assumption about the stunt.
This is the best Christmas music station logo variation I’ve seen yet. Not many people in Philadelphia wearing hat and scarves today though in 60 degree plus weather.
Both
@scottfybush
and I hearing a fairly significant station deal involving at least three companies in the Northeast will be announced as soon as tomorrow.
iHeartRadio app already displaying new "97.1 The Freak" logo and positioning as “We Talk About What We Want" showing emphasis not just on Sports but general Guy Talk.
When I was a kid, my parents would take me to 103.5 WYNY New York’s listener picnics where they reserved a park space and invited listeners to socialize with all their jocks present. Even something simple as that helps create a bond with listeners and the station.
If you're launching a new radio station, you could at least pretend it's not a canned "format-in-a-box" and hold back the pre-produced listener testimonial drops for a couple of days.
The work that
@RaceTaylor
,
@JoeyKramerNYC
and others behind the scenes did today to put together the WPLJ Reunion today was beyond perfect. Everyone involved deserves some form of an award for part 1 of the 48 hour funeral for 48 years of history. 1/
