When I was in HS, we had our tryouts in the gym.
Our coach told everyone that during catch play, if a ball was dropped by either catch partner, both had to do 10 pushups.
Even worse was the fact that when the ball hit the wall it was very loud since it banged off the retracted…

So your coach was not interested in making everyone better? Also sets up an environment where people are scared of making mistakes. We get better by trying and failing and learning.

One of the most important parts of your preparation. Throw with a purpose. I’m always preaching this. A good catch play gets your mind right for a good practice outcome.

Oh damn. I had a teammate get the yips at the start of the season one year in high school. Eventually he got to the point where he'd throw the ball 5 or 6 times and then call it a day.
He would have done hundreds of push ups lol.
Yips went away on their own after a few weeks.
@pitchingschool
The sound of a baseball on a wooden basketball court and the bkeachers with all of the echos and everything is the worst.
It can tell you a lot though.
@pitchingschool
We did the same but EVERYONE had to do push-ups!! We had one guy who would try to play burnout and sometimes didn’t know where ball was going. 8 times ball hit bleachers. All 8 by him.
Also…he was our catcher so lots of extra bases given to teams on overthrows. lol
@pitchingschool
We didn’t have punishments at Elder for bad throws, but everyone knew when they happened, since wood bleachers don’t lie. I think right around 10 baseball bangs was when the running started.
