UArizona Economics, English, and Philo. Frequenter of rabbit holes, lover of books, guzzler of caffeine, juggler of ideas, fabricator of words (she/her)
Hearing Noam Chomsky's health has deteriorated to the point it now prevents him from writing, commenting or participating in the public domain. As an educator he has been without equal. An intellectual giant in an age of confusion, misinformation & soundbites. Thank you, Noam. ❤️
I’m looking to read as much Econ as I can before life eventually gets to me, so pls drop your favorite Econ books/ articles/ papers/ resources in the comments ⬇️!
Thanks in advance — can’t wait to read :)
Okay, this idea is a bit out-there, but I think it would be SUPER fun -- how many of y'all would be down to do a zoom/ discord reading group that meets twice a month (or once -- that can be negotiated)? We read from all disciplines & all subjects. What do y'all think?
I’m interested in curating a list of free, accessible, & inclusive resources related to economics and more broadly, social science. And I’d love your help in doing so. Pls drop ⬇️/ DM any resources you know of. This could span genres — podcasts, websites, interactive games…
Hello, Twitter friends! I’m looking for research opportunities within economics, specifically, but am also open to opportunities within the social sciences, more broadly, and also English Literature & Philosophy. If you or anyone you know is aware of such opportunities…
Hi, Twitter folks! I’m currently on the lookout for freelance (paid) editing, ideation, and research work. I’d appreciate if you could spread word, if possible. Also happy to share my CV for anyone interested — thank you!
What’s a good way to get involved in Econ and Econ-adjacent (esp. policy) research while one is applying to graduate school? I’m eager to learn and get involved, and would appreciate any leads. Thanks!

Okay, I really hate having to rant on here, but why can’t people just be nice on here??? It’s really not that hard… Just had someone be very rude to me and tell me off for trying to help…
Okay, cute story time:
Once, during an English Lit. junior proseminar, I obviously 🙄 misunderstood the instructions for the midterm paper. So, I confidently went to my prof. saying I’d like to write my paper on Manto’s Toba Tek Singh (which everyone should read, btw) …
“For a moment, nothing happened. Then, after a second or so, nothing continued to happen.” — Douglas Adams (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy)
Why is Douglas Adams describing my life? What is this?
Has anyone here done (or knows much about) the (certified) MITx Micromasters in Econ & Policy, Stats & Data Science, &/or Finance? If so, could I reach out to you regarding some questions I had? Thanks in advance!
If you ever authored a book, what would it be about? I think mine would be a collection of critical essays covering popular culture, philosophy, politics, literature, and the like. Curious to read your replies 🥰
I know academia can be brutal and overwhelming, but it’s so nice to see researchers and scholars willing to share their work with folks who might not necessarily have the means to access it :)
In honor of hitting 1000 followers, here is one of my favorite spoken-word poems. I promise I will not let this fame change me, dear followers; I will remain as humble as ever, if not more. 🥹
I just lost a couple of my 1 gazillion tabs because I decided to restart my laptop … and I am DEVASTATED, to say the least. Never have I felt so much loss and pain …
Wow… < 1 month ago, I was sitting at maybe 20-ish followers, and today, I just hit 500+. Twitter truly is an amazing community to be part of (well, most of the time, anyway)
Um so, I know I post quite a bit, and while most of you have been wonderful and supportive, I just want to put this out there:
Pls be cognizant of the fact that there’s a person behind this screen. If you don’t like what I post, feel free to mute/ block me…
Before I knew what economics really was, I had an inkling of what behavioral economics was. Thank you for contributing to the creation of this wonderful world I hope to build a life in, Prof. Kahneman. May you rest easy and in peace.
I often think about this: is it morally obligatory to separate the art from the artist? If so, how do you do that?
I’m thinking of Neruda, whose sonnet XVII brings me to tears each time, but who was a r*pist, or Picasso, who revolutionized art but wasn’t the nicest man…
Spent all morning thinking about Leela Gandhi’s “Postcolonial Theory: A Critical Introduction.” And man, oh man, I’m such a fan. Just a smitten little kitten. What I wouldn’t give to be able to articulate my thoughts and ideas like that.
Hi, y’all — it’s me, again! Your previous answers helped a lot, so I was wondering if any of knew anyone who is looking for a research assistant (preferably remote) in economics, philosophy, political science, &/ or adjacent fields, who… (1/n)
Hi! What would you recommend (esp. wrt pre-doc apps) for students who don’t have the best Econ/Math grades but who know their content, are passionate about the subject, and are willing to learn and put in the work? Thanks IA!

Are there any poets/ writers out there who would be kind enough to take a look at some poems I’m thinking of submitting to magazines & journals? I’d really appreciate it if you could help me out with some feedback. Thank you!
… to not only look this story (which was totally foreign to them) up, but also read it. Anyway, I ended up writing about Manto’s masterpiece and liminality in what I consider my best pieces till date. The point of this story is— the sort of encouragement my prof. provided …
Having too much time and too little structure to my intellectual pursuits means I’ve ended up jumping between multiple running projects without being held to a deadline to complete any of them in full
It’s one of those days again *sigh*
Pls recommend the saddest work of art you’ve read or seen? I know this is weird request, but I think it’ll help me navigate things. Thank you :)
Just to dispel any misconceptions, when I talk about curating lists & creating spaces for early-career researchers within which to share their work, it’s more for community than myself. I really believe in building a healthy academic community— this is just my way of doing so :)

— I’m trying to revise my intermediate micro but am confused between Varian and Perloff (both with Calculus applications). What would you recommend? Any help is appreciated— thank you!
… and I find out we’re supposed to choose a topic based on our course readings (ofc, we do, smh). But, < 10 min later, I get an email from my prof. saying I MUST write on Toba Tek Singh. Mind you, they — a specialist in semiotics and Western Lit — had taken the time & effort …
Many years ago, I went to Chicago to visit (now former and forgotten) friends. Anyway, we visited the Art Institute of Chicago, where one of the guards had been very kind to me. He’d recommended I go check out Chagall’s America Windows (pictured below)…
Okay, it’s that kind of night. Pls suggest some good TV shows/ movies/ documentaries? I usually prefer drama/ comedy (satire is preferred)/ historical fiction, etc.
Bonus if it’s in French!
Franz Kafka is buried about a mile down the road from my apartment, across the street from a metro station, a hideous socialist realist hotel and a grocery store. 100 years since the day of his death, we’re all living in Kafka’s world, whether we know it or not.
Okay, so while I figure out the logistics for this, I’m wondering if we could maybe asynchronously discuss a paper/ article/ piece of art/ something once per week? I think that would be a good start. What say?
Okay, this idea is a bit out-there, but I think it would be SUPER fun -- how many of y'all would be down to do a zoom/ discord reading group that meets twice a month (or once -- that can be negotiated)? We read from all disciplines & all subjects. What do y'all think?
Sometimes, you read Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, sit on the grass with a drink that looks like a dissolved sunset, and doodle a Dickinson quote that you hope is true for the people you are fortunate to cross paths with (and those you are not)
I especially think back fondly to this one conversation a young man from Iran had had with Prof. Chomsky. Said young man had lost most of his family to the regime, and despite coming from a humble background, had travelled all the way to Tucson just to meet his hero…
@thatwhatsaisaid
That’s actually SUCH a cool idea. I wonder if anyone w/ enough Twitter (I’m not calling it X — sue me) traction could get that going??? Pretty please 🥺
I know most podcasts only invite established researchers, so I was wondering — are there any podcasts/ YouTube channels that interview/ dissect the works of early-career researchers?
