It was really disappointing to see how many people were driving without their lights on yesterday afternoon, and how many weren’t keeping a safe following distance in wet weather conditions. These are some of many examples we saw—on the Urban Motorway and further north to Petone.

Know how to merge during lockdown? This month's Merge of the Month shows how: ◾ Stay home. ◾ If you’re traveling for essential reasons: look for a gap, indicate, and merge like a zip at the end of the merge lane.

Turning your lights on makes you more visible to others. Many of us drive silver, grey, or white vehicles, which can easily blend into the grey road, the grey sky, and the white spray of water. A good reminder is if you need your wipers on, you probably need your lights on too.

You also need to leave more distance when you’re following someone else. Following so closely is extremely dangerous and can result in nose to tail crashes that then disrupt everyone. Beyond this just being common sense, it’s illegal to follow as closely as these people are.

Rule of thumb: keep left unless you’re passing other cars. Keeping left helps improve safety and reduce congestion. You can use the right lane if the left lane is full, you’re passing vehicles, or you’re turning right. At all other times, keep left whenever possible.

#keepkatenz Hi folks. To clarify - we've got no plans to remove the Kate Sheppard lights. We're working with @WgtnCC on approvals. Cheers.

WGTN EVENING PEAK - PLAN AHEAD - MON 17 FEB Due to a high volume of cyclists riding from Parliament at 5:30pm to Petone, please plan ahead for delays & consider travelling outside of peak. It is important to be patient & allow plenty of room when passing.

We hope you've been enjoying the Peka Peka to Ōtaki Expressway since it opened before Christmas! It provides a safer, more resilient, and more reliable route through Kāpiti. Check out this drone flyover showing the full expressway, filmed before opening:

Today we announced that the Transmission Gully motorway is now scheduled to open to traffic by September 2021. While any delay is disappointing, we’re pleased that we can give you certainty that the road is scheduled to open in just over a year. More info:

We're really proud of the work Ōtaki College students have done filming the development of Peka Peka to Ōtaki. There's a huge amount of community interest on the project and they've done an amazing job keeping the community informed. Ka rawe! Excellent work team!

Even little kids know how to stay within the lines. Never cross a yellow no-passing line—you never know what could be coming around the corner.
