BREAKING: NYC nurses strike to end this morning in historic victory as tentative deals were reached with both
@MontefioreNYC
and
@MountSinaiNYC
Hospital. Nurses won concrete enforceable safe staffing ratios in both deals and will be back on the job.
🔗:
To all of our patients, to all New Yorkers, we want to be absolutely clear: If you are sick, please do not delay getting medical care, regardless of whether we are on strike. In fact, we invite you to come join us on the strike line after you've gotten the care you need.
NEW: 14,000 New York City private sector nurses overwhelmingly voted to authorize strike for better patient care. Voting continues at remaining facilities, NYSNA expects all 17k nurses to vote in favor.
Approx. 17k NYSNA nurses at 12 NYC private sector hospitals have union contracts expiring on Dec. 31. However, management continues to resist when it comes to safe staffing, fair wages & maintaining quality health benefits.
That’s why nurses have begun strike vote authorization.
Incredible first day of
#NYCNurseStrike
! Thank you to all the nurses, community members and local leaders supporting our fight for safe staffing and better patient care!
Can’t stop, won’t stop until we get a fair contract!
Nurses are heading back to work this morning! We were joined by
@NYSAFLCIO
Pres. Cilento and
@GovHochul
to celebrate our tentative agreements and greet nurses as we head back to keep NYC safe and healthy!
“This is a historic victory for New York City nurses and for nurses across the country. NYSNA nurses have done the impossible, saving lives night and day, throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and now we’ve again shown that nothing is impossible for nurse heroes. (1/3)
Today, we can return to work with our heads held high, knowing that our victory means safer care for our patients and more sustainable jobs for our profession.” –President Nancy Hagans, RN (3/3)

Through our unity and by putting it all on the line, we won enforceable safe staffing ratios at both Montefiore and Mount Sinai where nurses went on strike for patient care. (2/3)

Nurses shouldn’t have to strike to get the proper staffing and the safe and effective PPE to do their job. But
@AlbanyMed
nurses are ready to do just that.

One Day Longer, One Day Stronger! Management continues to paint nurses as villains on the strike line, but everyone knows who the real heroes are.
Come on, management! Stop prioritizing your own bottom line over our patients and our community!

We would rather be at the bedside caring for our patients, but management has made conditions so unbearable for nurses. NYSNA Director at Large and Mount Sinai nurse Matt Allen, RN, reminds everyone why nurses are still fighting for a fair contract.
“Hospital management are the ones that are causing the strike, not the nurses. We are ready to work, ready to negotiate in good faith. All they have to do is to give us a fair contract.”– NYSNA President Nancy Hagans, RN.
Essential workers continue to risk their lives to lead us through COVID
We must protect these heroes to safely reopen our economy
I'm proud that the NY legislature passed the NY HERO Act to

BREAKING! Nursing home and hospital staffing legislation passes the state legislature. Finally, there will be a process for setting enforceable staffing standards at every hospital and nursing home! This is a giant step in bringing equity and quality care to New York!
The 10-day notices give hospitals time to plan care for patients while nurses are on strike. But the best way for management to protect patients is to listen to nurses and settle fair contracts that protect patient care in the next 10 days.
We get lots of questions from non-nurses about what is safe

. Instead of asking people to read fact sheets on our website, the scientific lit. on infection control, or int'l best practices, we'll leave this as a public service announcement...

Enough is enough. Today, hundreds of

RNs delivered the 10-day notice to strike. Chronic under-staffing is THE issue. We will do whatever we need to protect our patients!

This notice means that approximately 16,000 nurses and counting will go on strike beginning Jan. 9 in at least eight hospitals, unless we can reach fair contract agreements before then.
PRESS RELEASE:
@nynurses
President Nancy Hagans, RN: "Instead of supporting us and acknowledging our work, hospital executives have been fighting against COVID nurse heroes. They've left us with no other choice but to move forward with voting to authorize a strike for better patient care."
NEW: NYSNA nurses at
@nyphospital
reach tentative agreement hours before contract expired on Dec. 31 and one day after delivering strike notice. Negotiations for 12,000 nurses at 7 hospitals continue as nurses prepare to strike for better patient care.
If hospitals can afford to pay executives millions of dollars in salaries, bonuses and perks, they can afford to invest in hiring and retaining enough nurses for safe patient care.

South Shore University Hospital/ Northwell Health nurses are showing our love for our patients and our profession. This morning nurses gathered to deliver a strike notice! Unless management delivers a fair contract, 800 nurses are set to strike on Feb. 27. ❤️💪
Last week nurses at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Yonkers voted overwhelmingly to ratify a new contract! Their hard-won contract includes improvements to staffing ratios, strong wage increases, additional funding for education and staff development, and more. Congrats nurses!

LIVE: Union officials announce a strike authorization vote involving more than 10,000 registered nurses at three New York City hospital systems: Mt. Sinai, Presbyterian and Montefiore.
UPDATE! We’re happy to report that our 5J nurses on the dedicated COVID unit are back to work! Thank you to all who stood with us to demand that
@MontefioreNYC
respect our nurses.
Now, let’s not stop until our nurses in the COVID testing tent & post-surgical unit are also back!
