Completed two weeks in postdoc & Boston! I am so grateful to work with such a nice community with many things to learn!! Also, I still can't believe I get to live here and call it home. 😊

Hey guys, I've started to learn R by using this book that I've found helpful! Is there anything you want to recommend while I'm in the beginner phase? I'd appreciate any help! TIA!

As I’m done with my away rotations, I’m trying to clean my mailbox. It's unbelievable how many programs I’ve applied to were not accepting international students. But somehow I’ve kept trying. Hoping this year would be different for my fellow IMG friends!

@StoriesImg
Indeed, it's a micro award but something to celebrate tonight🥳 Thanks,
@BrighamResearch
, for the opportunity! And as always, huge thanks to
@vangalenlab
for the endless support!
#MedTwitter
I can’t believe how hard to find an elective. Most of the school in the US don’t accept international students, the ones that accept don’t accept this year due to pandemic. This leaves only handful option. I am trying for almost one year but no luck yet😔
A little bit late, but happy to share that I received the abstract achievement award from
@ASH_hematology
! I feel super lucky to have amazing mentors who helped me tremendously at
@BrighamWomens
and
@DanaFarber
! Can’t wait for December!!
#ASH23
Today I submitted my first
@ASH_hematology
abstract, which also marks up my one year at
@vangalenlab
@BrighamHeme
I couldn't ask for a better learning place, mentor, and coworkers!
Super excited about the future, especially joining my first ASH in December!!
A wonderful start to the week, running my samples, getting good data, and scrolling through Twitter for all the good news about
#Match2023
Congratulations to all!! 🥳
Almost a year ago, I applied for my first
@broadinstitute
award, which was not successful. A year later, a month ago, I received my first award very unexpectedly. Even though it's very small, it reminds me again you just have to keep going💫
Ending the week by reading this masterpiece. Even though I’m halfway through, It's already one of the best books I've read. I can't believe I’ve never come upon it before! Thanks for the recommendation
@KyleRomine12
!!
I want to share something with you all. I applied to a university elective last April. They sent me a pre-approval summer of 2021. I was over the moon as you can imagine. I kept waiting for months. Then they said they won't schedule students for fall 2021.
@StoriesImg
My PI from Georgetown came to Istanbul for a holiday and took the train to Ankara for the weekend! I hadn't seen him for over three years, and I never thought we would have dinner together in Ankara! They really enjoyed the Turkish kebab and semaver(Turkish teapot).
#MedTwitter
I really appreciate rejection emails. I know most of the people are very busy in the medicine world but the ones who responded even though negatively make me feel seen somehow!

Dear Dr. Siegel, I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for showing us, the next generation of physicians, that anything is possible by removing obstacles in that route. Hoping to be fortunate enough to match a program like yours in the future!!!
First time applying to an award at
@broadinstitute
. Against little odds of being selected, I am applying anyways, thinking it is a good practice! Any advice is appreciated!

I spent the Saturday at
@harvardmed
Residency Showcase, which was a genuinely eye-opening experience for me. Listening to residents and program directors was incredibly helpful!! I am thankful to
@HMS_DICP
for organizing this fantastic event and letting me participate!
Hey guys, I spent my 2019 summer at Georgetown Med School in Dr. Suzuki’s Lab. I participated in the ongoing researches. In one project we examined the postmortem brain vasculature of human patients who died of ischemic stroke due to systemic hypertension. (1/2)
Postdoctoral Fellow Dr. Nurefsan Sariipek

This summer, I'll be mentoring an extraordinary high school student in
@vangalenlab
as a part of the CURE Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center program! First time mentoring someone at this level! Any advice is appreciated!!

I have no words except that I am heartbroken for 2 days.Please consider to help in anyway that you can. Some links that many others shared are below. Thanks everyone who checked in and huge gratitude to those who already contributed a lot of help.
#TurkeyEarthquake
So today like every other day, after I presented the case, the attending asked what would you do next? And he said my answer was right on the top and he changed the meds of the patient with the ones I've recommended. It was such a pleasant moment.😊

Last week, I completed the neonate service in my pediatric rotation. My favorite part was saying “iyi yaşa” to one-year-olds when they sneezed during the physical examination. It is a Turkish phrase that is similar to “bless you” but it means “have a good life.”😊
Today, my last day at the hem/onc clinic, I had to chance to assist with a bone marrow biopsy! These 4 weeks were crazy for me! I've learned a lot and I’m grateful for this experience. With that being said I think it's settled now that I wanna follow the hem/onc path!

Happy birthday to
@NalanYurtsever1
, who inspired me to go into medical school, join the MedTwitter, and pretty much shaped all my big life decisions!! So lucky to have you as my mentor, and to look forward to visiting you at Yale next year 😊🎉
And contributed to others, such as in collaborations with
@nursariipek
@vangalenlab
@MGooptu
to study single cells post-SCT for TP53 mutant
#AML
focusing on T cell clonotype diversity and associations with relapse, on Saturday ()
After participating in the
@bwh_postdocs
Mentor Circle this last year and mentoring unofficially medical students all along, I am super excited to mentor my first student this summer at
@vangalenlab
! Feeling so lucky that I had/have great mentors that I can look up to!

Also, I am thrilled to live in the beautiful city of Boston! Please share if you have any advice about post-doc life and living in Boston!!

Currently looking for some research positions and I can say I'm interested in everybody's work! Kidding but it is so cool that so many people are working on cancer research, makes me hopeful about the future of cancer treatment!
I know their job is harder with the pandemic but I think they did manage very poorly. I am very disappointed in the whole situation. As an IMG it is extremely hard to find an elective now it’s almost impossible with the covid.
@IMG_Advocate
I did subcutaneous and cutaneous sutures in the surgery today, attendings said they liked that how I was calm and confident while I was suturing so I guess that's a good thing that happened to me!
Hey
#Medtwitter
, almost graduate IMG here. Done with step1. I’ve summer research experiences in the US. Looking for a longer research opportunity. Paid or unpaid in Hem/Onc area. I’ll appreciate any help! TIA!

Even though there’re a lot of unpleasant things going on around the world, I am still excited about the new year. Especially my elective rotations in New York in January and February 🥳 Looking forward to new experiences and adventures! I can’t wait for what is to come in 2022!
Hi everyone, we're trying
@10xGenomics
Multiome first time; we just analyzed the full-length cDNA on TapeStation, and it seems like something in it is giving a really high signal around the lower marker. We'd appreciate any ideas about what could be causing this signal! TIA!
@clairedocdavies
It's not the reason why I did go into it, but the reason why I stayed is I couldn't imagine myself doing any other job after my first patient interaction in medical school— I felt like that was what I was supposed to do, still feeling the same😊
Okay, almost done with my first elective in the US, and I can confirm that I went great, more than I anticipated. And our attending gave us (me and the other student) a little goodbye speech today that made my day. 😊
From knowing and having the chance by mentored by her I can say this is truly deserved success!! So happy and excited for you
@anachsouza
!! And super grateful that you are staying at BWH so I can bother you with my career questions more!! 🥳🎉
”I am impressed with you and how you interacted with patients. You two made a great team, one of the best ones I’ve worked with actually. I’m sure next year you’ll make great residents.” So I’m gonna enjoy the rest of my night as a happy student.

Hi Dr. de Lima, you probably don't remember me but I was a visiting summer student in your BMT clinic at Seidman Cancer Center in Cleveland. It was an unforgettable experience for me! I just want to say you're one of the people who influenced me to go into the hem/onc world!
So today at the clinic I encountered a cyclic neutropenia patient who was diagnosed with 5 years ago. Since cyclic neutropenia is seen one in a million I was quite excited! Now I’m headed to read about this unique disease. Best kind of way to end the day!

Hey,
#MedTwitter
, I wonder what the best way to read and store recent pubs and papers is. I do have an iPad that I like to read papers on it, but I find it hard to keep them in order and access them from my MacBook. I tried apps like notability but not the most convenient way IMO
How I am spending my Sunday evening.✨ Making small notes for chemotherapeutic agents that my preceptor advised me to do. He said it would help me a lot during rounds and this way I can quickly access it from my phone, instead of searching from the scratch. 😊

Yeah, that was the thing I was trying to say! Due to the pandemic, it got harder to find a program for imgs! Hoping this year would be easy since the vaccinations etc. I hope you can get into the program you wanted to!
Day 3 in my cardiology rotation We check the bp of every patient who comes to the clinic and those with high bp say their bp was normal at home. So we have to guess every time is it the white coat HT or not controlled HT.😅So far so good!

How I spent my Sunday morning: re-emailing the elective programs that have been responded me negatively due to covid, asking for an update, hoping for some good news🤞🏼

Sometimes I think I am nodding too much, but I can't stop myself because that's the only way I can show the lecturer I’m listening! Or at least that's what my brain thinks!
So this is an image from the PDA that we discovered in a 60 yo patient. When I saw the image I thought it was either PDA or PFO. It made me so happy! I know I still have a lot to learn but I am not afraid of ultrasound images anymore!
@CarmemBonfim1
@DrMarcosdelima
I was privileged to shadow him 4 years ago at Seidman Cancer Center for 4 weeks. He is one of the people that inspired me to follow the hem/onc! Truly grateful for that experience!
Now thanks to

I have the opportunity to share! If anyone interested in I’m linking the full article. I’m super grateful that be able to part of this research! (2/2)
Yesterday I finished my neurology rotation. And honestly, I wouldn’t think I’d love it this much. Now I understand it’s extremely important who you worked with! My team made me feel like I was one of them.
@Dr_AmerZeidan
I have separate folders in my phone for the sunrise and sunset pictures I took! This is one of my favorites, 2018’s first sunrise from Poland, Lodz.
Today was my last day in the cardiology rotation I'd like to share 2 events that occurred this week which were quite interesting and exciting for me!
1-) We performed a bubble study and I was the lucky student who did the bubbles! Even though the test was neg I had so much fun.
@Rafameed
When I was doing observership at University Hospitals in Cleveland I was even eating my lunch with one of the residents so I wouldn't get lost while I go to the afternoon board meeting! He got bored with me after a while and draw me a map! 😂
I am on my ob-gyn night shift today and about 15 minutes ago we had a pregnant woman come in with contractions. She was already 100% dilated so she was taken to the labor room immediately. I am terrified and stunned every time I witness a birth of a baby!
@NicoGagelmann
The internship in the BMT unit made me realize that hem/onc is what I wanted to do! Maybe because it was the first time I understood how research affected patients' lives tremendously. Also, it was the first time I saw patients on the ward who did get CAR-T cells as well 😊
It’s kinda hard rotating in a different department every month especially when you get used to people too much! Anyway, I’m so grateful for experiences,
My first LP attempt and so on. Now it’s time for general surgery!🥳
