The like 25% of zoomers who are christian conservatives are incredibly odd because they somehow seem to think zoomers are all christian conservative. Like,,, there's no way this is true in their irl communities right?
"my house value increased" is a scam. So you bought for $500k and now it's worth $1m, but you don't actually have $500k extra, since *you need to live somewhere*.
"But I can just move into a $500k house again" no, everyone's housing prices have gone up, not just yours
I think what posts like this don't get is that in cases where dutch and english have similar words the dutch word is spelled almost exactly like you'd write a bad generic European accent in English. That's why it's funny, not because the spelling is illogical or whatever
People are making fun of Dutch while they speak English, a language with centuries old spelling that makes zero sense with the current way of pronunciation.
Ok I normally find this kind of evidence weak but this one is just hilarious. Picturing some guy in a cowboy hat being like "we have a warm water port" as if it's a flex and losing it
This is obviously a Russian. Only Russia talks about the value of a warm water port. Because the US as a whole has several and this has never been an issue for us.
The backlash to 15 minute cities has polarized me. We're going to do 14 minute cities now. Every time you complain about pods and bugs we reduce it by 1 minute
The thing about stuff like this is even if "empires last 250 years on average" was true rather than being obvious pseudoscience, "empires that are 246 years old only last 4 more years" doesn't follow at all
One of the weird things about growing up somewhere with a lot of undeveloped and protected land is that you realize that most people's definition of "nature" is monoculture fields and pasture
It's genuinely insane how much of antivaccination consists of just blatantly lying about basic facts about reality. Like,, 200 million Americans got the vaccine lol
My favorite thing about Indian politics is that there will be some party called "Revolutionary Marxist Party of India" and they'll be part of the right wing bloc
Rural folks do this thing where they're like "you out of touch coastal elite, in REAL America EVERYONE does X" and you look up how many people do X and it's like 1% of the population
i have no opinion on the issue at hand here (uninformed) but it seems to me very disingenuous to not mention that ed zuckerman here is a fucking sod farmer.
heβs not growing the food we eat, heβs growing fucking grass
There's basically three ways this border situation ends
(1) Biden effectively backs down, everyone forgets about this in 3mo
(2) Biden actually does something
(2a) governors back off, everyone forgets in 3mo
(2b) there's an actual exchange of fire, Biden wins 400 EV landslide
Measles reported in Long Island, where a midwife falsified 1,500 vaccination records for children in recent years. She gave kids homeopath "pellets" instead of actual vaccines that would have actually protected them from measles, mumps & other diseases.
Ok I'm only in early S2 right now but so far:
1. Monarchical dictatorship
2. Island nation
3. In a protracted land war with a large continental nation
4. Primarily a naval power
5. Blends spirituality and militarism
This is very clearly Japan lol
The biggest cities in both the US and Canada were named after York (Toronto was originally called York)
York is some random town with a population smaller than Rockford city Illinois
What happened here
π·πΊπΉπΌ: Alex Jones crowd, far right weirdos
π·πΊπ¨π³: Tankies
πΊπ¦πΉπΌ: Most people in the USA
Imply the existence of
πΊπ¦π¨π³: Yet undiscovered group
Is she,, ,claiming,,, that the biblical story of Exodus, down to the divine intervention, is historic consensus?
Like we have biblical literalist liberals now???
"Good schools" just means "schools in rich areas" in the US. It has nothing to do with urban vs suburban. Urban schools in rich cities like SF and Boston are competitive with suburban schools. This isn't an urbanism issue whatsoever, it's just a money thing
US ones are on bottom. We like them to look prettier. German consumers probably would too all things equal, but the EU has a web of food regulations, mainly for protectionist reasons.
I think a lot of the Japanese empire apologia in the west comes from the fact that most Americans think Pearl Harbor was the worst thing Japan did during WW2
I cannot believe an controversy that actually forced a prominent YouTuber to release an explanation video is "Are negative reviews morally acceptable"
Like what. Literally what.
This only creates wealth for people who are planning to either downsize later in life or move to somewhere cheaper. And places that are cheaper usually have other downsides (worse weather, more spread out so harder to get places, worse services). The whole thing is a scam
While RFK Jr is certainly running as a Democrat, I think it's odd to try to use him to say that the Democrats have an antisemitism problem, given that he's polling very poorly, has no party support, and his online fans are exclusively antivaxx reactionaries
Folks who wanted to be in politics from a young age do this thing where they assert that it's completely normal to go work for reactionary politicians, and I think that a thing that they're not getting is that the vast majority of people don't do this at all
I legitimately cannot believe that there is a prominent YouTuber called "SS Sniper Wolf" and they are being cancelled right now for a reason other than being a nazi.
Like do you know how hard it is to be *so wrong* that you can't find *any credible source* to back you up? Most wrong claims have someone credible supporting or appearing to support them
The Sunset in San Francisco genuinely has the worst vibes of any urban area I've ever been
The vibe is best described as "old video game that didn't include trees to save graphics compute"
Here's a photo (from Google maps because I always forget to take pictures when I go)
Probably the funniest thing about the anti 15 minute cities stuff is it currently seems to be strongest in rural England, where basically everyone lives in cities that used to be 15 minute cities before they were deliberately worsened for cars
The whole thing is just society-level brainworms. Incredibly destructive ideology that leads people to act against their own interest by trying to increase the cost of a necessary resource because maybe they can sell their access to the necessary resource down the road
Like this isn't even a political issue or something weighty, it's some YouTuber who ripped off an article. You don't immediately have to go into defense mode on this
Like the joke isn't "lol what a weird way to spell, ghoti amrite" it's "lol these folks are pretending to have their own language but it's just English with a bad accent"
Funniest thing about this thread is the euros assuming this person's right about weekly grocery runs and American families are either too large or gluttonous to fit their groceries for a week in a normal trunk
Lot of criticisms of this that focus on the fact that crimes against natives were covered. The thing is that both are true. In middle and high school you learn a vaguely accurate version of history, but in elementary school they start you off with absurd propaganda
Feel like people don't appreciate that even if you're driving 50 miles, going at 65 instead of 80 only costs you 11 minutes total. The thing that makes commutes take a while is traffic not the fact that you can't go super fast
The heist isn't becoming president it's being made president by a guy you then immediately pardon and having every historian treat this as an amazing show of national unity rather than obvious blatant corruption
"the one man in all of American history to become president without being elected" sounds like he should be a genius mastermind player of the political game but nah it's just gerry ford
