probably crying in the animal crossing museum • threat hunting research • open source hardware • cybersec • I no longer check / respond to DMs on here 🪦
I would really like if software could stop repeatedly and aggressively pushing me to use features I am clearly not interested in. Just leave me alone. It’s my computer and my time, so stop invading both of these. It feels like someone is constantly badgering me.
I resigned from microsoft this week. I learned a lot and met some great people, but ultimately it wasn't the right fit for me personally. Thanks to those internally who supported my work and ethos while I was there.
📝 Hi everyone, I wrote in detail about my live coding setup here if you wanted to see how a seasoned live coding streamer runs their show 👩🏼💻☕️
PS ⚠️ it's a 20 minute read sorry but I tried to include as much detail as possible! 🙇🏼♀️
maybe, just once, if someone is minding their own business and creating cool things that don’t harm anyone and are genuinely just enjoying themselves and sharing that joy _let them do it_ and be happy for them gee whiz
definitely gonna regret tweeting this and will delete it later
but just making sure y'all are aware that doing a job predominantly for the money and being really good at doing that job are not mutually exclusive
if you're feeling tension or anxiety about completing a task or contributing to a technical conversation because you know you have some relevant knowledge gaps, this is good self awareness and not imposter syndrome. If you're new to any domain you're likely going to feel this way
colleague: "sorry for this quick debugging session I won't take up too much of your time"
me, oversharing: "that's ok I'm pretty lonely these days so I enjoy this kind of thing"
🙃
I've been programming professionally for 13 years. I've been stuck on a hashing mismatch problem on and off for a couple of months now. The bug was that my verification script was hashing the string "device" and the script I was writing was hashing string "device2" instead 😆
writing a regex powered find/replace (with capture!) in vim while several hundred people watch and having it work the first time is the pinnacle win for me today haha
I just received the GK64 in the mail this morning and I'm officially in love 😍 it's *so beautiful* 🌷 hot swappable switches; programmable; dedicated arrow keys; it's so quiet I'm almost crying with joy 😭 I installed the Godspeed keycaps on it 💜👩🏻🚀
today is my first day on the Cloud Developer Advocate team at
@Microsoft
💕 I'll be working on a variety of stuff (as usual!) but my main focus will be IoT 🤖📡🔒let me know if there's anything specific I can help demystify for you! 🔍🕵🏻♀️
finishing touches for my study are finally done 🌷
looking forward to working and learning in here next year!
still waiting on some cable management clips in the mail
Using cameras to monitor people looking at artwork, researchers hope that the data can help define "attraction value" for specific works of art, leading to changes in museum and gallery layout and exhibit scheduling
so let me get this straight we're going to use "AI" to create communications we don't want to write in the first place upon which the recipients then use "AI" to summarise because they don't want to read it either.
yeah love this future fucking great wtf
this is a great time to do an annual security and privacy checkup!

therapy is a constant heartbreak of being told that so many experiences in my life were abuse and not normal. It is however a reminder of how resilient I have become to have made it this far
the problem I am having at this new job is that everything is so interesting here that I have a million tabs of internal documentation open all at once and want to find time to read them all but I can't
I thought "stuff it" and I made two grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner with honeycrisp apple shavings, English aged cheddar, and truffle honey mustard and they are going down so well with this Macallan 12 year right now
omg again again again
some
people
want
to
do
things
for reasons
other than
business or profit
like
just for fun or for the experience
stop assuming someone's motivation is profit driven, or for business, that's absurd thinking
how many times do we have to say this
GDI
need to get the calves let out on these like almost every pair of pants I own right now, but I can fit my whole iPad Pro in the front pocket which is sending me
I hate this particular strain of commercial persona embedded in software that has become pervasive over the last 5 years, pretending to be my friend when it’s coercive and manipulative garbage.
Nine months since I have been to a hair salon and having one of those days where I’m wrestling with the act of smiling. Still feel cute all the same, so progress?
it has become painfully obvious recently that the gap between how I think I’m performing and how I’m actually performing is depressingly wide and not backed by logic. I carry so much shame with me that it turns any success into a story of failure too fast for me to short circuit.
every single open world video game should have a mode for the quiet wanderers where you don’t even start / play the main game at all but simply walk around alone in total peace and quiet
this has been the bane of my career for many years. No, I do not want to be a manager. No, these "skills" are actually just me trying extremely hard to treat people appropriately despite some social confusion on my part at times.
because I’m gross and don’t have time today I think I just managed to eat an entire breakfast wrap while on a call using selective muting without anyone hearing me lol
I totally forgot to share this last week when I uploaded it, but my OSCON 2018 keynote is available to watch here if you want to see an 8 minute live 'speed run' of me coding JavaScript to remotely control an Arduino ⚡️
I completely fell off the rails personally over the last week. Going to bed too late, didn’t water plants, skipped most household chores, didn’t cook any meals, clutter has creeped in, felt like shit.
Only climbing back out now
this year is just trying to accept over and over that I'm not meeting my regular quality bar standard and still being compassionate to myself despite that
This is not how you make helpful software. Quantitative metrics and corruption in software design incentives make me so mad because we are wasting so much potential on absolute drivel that constantly interrupts what feels like every task on a computer
Can we just own our devices from the metal to the software as well instead of slowly replacing everything to be a thin client for a cloud service that we don’t get ownership of either
Why are users hated so much? We are much the reason for their so called “incompetence”.
do folks have a subjective understanding of what a tech lead is because I get a lot of engineering manager roles in my inbox lately. But what I do for the tech lead *part* of my code-writing job is yell about tech debt and sometimes even fix it
like, you need to actually realize you’re not the only software running on the machine or the only website being visited. Every single thing is shouting at the user and you’re piling on.
RIP Dad ❤️ a truly kind soul who understood how to see the joy in life. Thank you so much to the incredible staff at Peter MacCallum for taking such good care of him and respecting his last wishes.
do you ever just stop telling anyone about things you’re going to do because you can’t be bothered using energy to ignore the concern trolling about why you should not do it
