The Dalton Minimum 1790-1830. We are headed into another one of these right now. But “follow the science” is leading us in the other direction.

has discussed the solar situation, maybe listen to him.
During the exceptionally cold winter of 1795, a French Hussar regiment captured the Dutch fleet on the frozen Zuiderzee, a bay to the northwest of the Netherlands. That was the only time in history when men on horseback captured a fleet of ships

Dad told me that during WW II, in northern Italy, it was bitterly cold, and he saw the Northern Lights for the only time in his life.

If I remember correctly the 1940 were the start of a very active period for the sun and sunspots and flares (causing northern lights) were increasing significantly.....leading to the most recent warming period through the early 1990s.

Have to agree. How cold ? There are Loads of factors beyond sun spots. Volcanoes, position from the sun etc. Both you and I have seen it colder in the past.

While I'm clueless on the matter it's safe to assume that the Sun activity has quite a role, although the sudden (relative to the Sun life) increase in pop has definitely played a role (simply because there are more people and more advanced on average than pre industrial times)
