So the intro cards were inspired by alot, mostly Gunsmith Cats, the Pani Poni Dash OPs. The obvious one is Cowboy Bebop or Archer, but Gunsmith Cats did this style first. Other influences were the MGS3 intro, the intro for Casino Royale, and Franz Ferdinand's MV for "This Fire"

This sequence was most of the reason that I put off releasing WLCW for a while since this part wasn't done until recent lol. It's a dumb "End of History" joke and visually inspired by the Trinity and Beyond documentary's "China Gets the Bomb" ending.

Valerie is East German because I wanted WLCW to depict more of the Pact/NATO rivalry than just a vanilla US/Russia conflict. From what I could find, the KGB were mostly active in America, but the HVA and GRU were more so in Europe.

The funniest thing I found out while researching was that the East Germans built a Casino nearby in 1986! It was demolished in 1996 and I even found photos of its destruction.

Behind the scenes of researching if it was possible to ram thru the Berlin Wall... Originally wanted to draw the iconic 80s wall, but Checkpoint Charlie then was a multi-lane traffic hub, so ultimately went w/ an mix of the 1961 crossing with 70s-era watchtowers.

Figured I should share some highlights of my trip to France this April... Spent 11 days in Verdun, Albert near the Somme, and Arras near Vimy to get a proper sense of the Great War's historic sites.

But yes, this sequence is directly inspired by Lupin the III, also FLCL. The Simson Schwalbe is an Ost-ified Vespa 150 TAP and I happen to like French vehicles hence the three-wheeled Citroen gag.

fun fact: WLCW was originally named East VS West before one of my storyboard profs pointed out the reversed geographic orientation (and West VS East doesn't sound good). Also hence why Naomi (West) is always on screen left and Valerie (East) on screen right.
