Absolutely inexcusable for officials to not blow this play dead. Calvert is sitting on ice bleeding from a puck to the head.. needs urgent attention. It doesn’t matter what the score is, blow the whistle
By my count, looks like 9 concussions in 14 days in the NHL. Only one suspension, one or two fines and almost no penalties. League and officials refuse to acknowledge a problem
Shaw
Dahlin
Benning (puck)
Tennyson
Konecny (likely)
Glass (likely)
Kotkaniemi
Eakin
Suomela
This season has not been kind to the NHL. Tim Peel incident, Tom Wilson, an Original 6 team being fined 250k for criticizing the DoPS, and now a GM and two coaches publicly criticizing the league in the last 24 hours in Armstrong, Brind'Amour, Cassidy.
Another example of officials making the wrong type of call when it comes to spearing. Pavelski only gets two minutes for "slashing" Nathan MacKinnon. Spear with contact is automatic game misconduct.
Here is the full video of Zack Kassian kicking Erik Cernak after taking him down to the ice. Exactly one month (1/13/20) after his two game suspension on Tkachuk
@NHLPlayerSafety
If Miro Heiskanen suffered a concussion tonight, joins long list of young stars who have had concussion(s) early in NHL career. All 25 and under
Auston Matthews
Elias Pettersson
Patrik Laine
Rasmus Dahlin
Andrei Svechnikov
Charlie McAvoy
Aaron Ekblad
Jake Guentzel
Two separate incidents with Zack Kassian-Matthew Tkachuk tonight. If officials made correct call, Tkachuk would’ve been removed from the game in the first period after an illegal check to the head of Kassian at 9:18 in the first period
Ryan Reaves given a match penalty, not a misconduct, for his actions in this scrum in front of Colorado net. Cross-checks Grubauer in the back of the head and then throws down Graves.
Would love to see an explanation on how Vancouver gets the extra penalty here? Seems like it should be offsetting for roughing, minor on Blais for boarding. Bad officiating is starting to have an impact on games..
Notice how it’s literally one fanbase and a couple knuckle draggers defending Morgan Rielly?
Yeah that should tell you what the correct side is. Goodnight everyone
Binnington is all over the place right now, first getting in the scrum behind STL net and now swinging his stick at the head of Kadri. Official chooses not to penalize
Gallagher just came back from a concussion and gets cross checked up high. Not sure how he thinks this is embellishment, Chara should’ve been given the extra penalty
Really bad hit here by Gallagher on Darnell Nurse, given two minutes for boarding. Takes a run at him from behind, dangerous distance away from boards.
Ben Harpur very fortunate he's not tossed from this game after shoving a linesman who is attempting to break up an altercation between him and Niederreiter
Sorry been very busy lately .. but this should’ve been a major.
It’s late, the players head position doesn’t change immediately before the hit, and the main point of contact is the head
Josh Manson should’ve been given a five minute major and a game misconduct after jumping Tyler Myers here, per Rule 46.2 Aggressor. Engages in a fight with an unwilling opponent and repeatedly punches him (twice on the ice). Myers engaged with Silfverberg does not factor in
Blatant elbow by Leon Draisaitl on Torey Krug. Krug not pulled for concussion protocol, was on ice immediately after for PPG. Draisaitl should be hearing from the league on this one, nothing but head
Not a “big hit”, it’s a hit from behind on a vulnerable player that sends him head first into the boards. Dangerous, dangerous hit which Wilson should’ve got a major for. Lilja scored CBJ first goal and this is how Tom Wilson retaliates.. disgusting
I am once again asking for defenseman to stop pushing someone into their own goaltender and then blaming it on them. Nothing Texier can do here to avoid Shesterkin
Alexandre Texier crashed into Igor from behind as
#CBJ
scores to make it 5-3. But the bigger news is that Igor looked shaken up after the play, which prompted Sammy Blais to go after Texier.
Colin Campbell resigned from
@NHLPlayerSafety
in 2011. In 2016, leaks showed him referring to critics of how the league has handled head injuries as tree huggers and praised violence in hockey
In 2020, he is still the Executive VP and Director of Hockey Ops. There is your answer
Terrible hit by Brendan Lemieux that should be worthy of a suspension. Blindside + hit to the head + interference. Donskoi potentially injured. Unacceptable.
@NHLPlayerSafety
Jacob Trouba makes contact with the head of Erik Haula. Haula goes directly to the locker room. No penalty for Trouba, who already has three penalties tonight (two for interference, one for roughing).
Problem is
@NHLPlayerSafety
pinned themselves in a corner. Not even a FINE for the crosscheck to the head as period expires by Evander Kane, so they can’t suspend the slash by Pietrangelo without looking like hypocrites
This league is a joke.
You know it’s bad when BOTH sides are pleading with officials to blow the whistle, as a player lays on the ice bleeding. This is a problem. Fix it now
@NHL
Brett Pesce gets hit in the wrist by a slap shot. He instantly went down as play wasn't stopped. He then grabbed/pinched down on his wrist as he rushed off the ice and into the locker room. Really scary scene.
Neither player should be in this game to start third period. Blatant to injure on both hits by Matthew Tkachuk. First is an illegal check to the head, second a hit from behind and slight charge. Kassian retaliates and jumps Tkachuk, continues to punch him while he’s down
The department of
@NHLPlayerSafety
and
@GeorgeParros
continue to sit idle and let these plays happen by not coming down with strict discipline. If Perreault has a concussion, it’s at least the 13th concussion in three weeks in the NHL. Not acceptable by any stretch of imagination
Here's the hit by Clifton on Lindblom who is off to the locker room. Late and high, no call on the play. Hard to tell how much body contact Clifton gets but this is interference at the minimum
DOPS talk made me curious as to who have been the most suspended teams in the Parros era (17/18 to Pres)
- On-ice suspensions only
- Automatics don't count
- Original rulings, not appeals
- Regular Season + Playoffs
Don’t know who needs to hear this but if you think a player is embellishing enough to put himself in concussion protocol, in a must win playoff game, for a chance at a penalty…. log off
Ridiculous
Anyway... No McDavid, Matthews, Crosby, Ovechkin, Stamkos, Pastrnak left in these playoffs. The best players left are Tkachuk, Robertson, and Jack Eichel.
That's crazy.
No reason for this to be matching minors with Benning punching Martinook multiple times when down. Should be CAR PP and a 10 minute misconduct to Benning
What is unprofessional and unacceptable is the league’s constant denial of the impact that head injuries have on their players, and their refusal to punish plays that result in them. Fire Colin Campbell.
#NHL
director of hockey operations Colin Campbell tells The Athletic that
#CBJ
coach John Tortorella's post-game comments were “unprofessional along with unacceptable.”
Campbell has spoken with Tortorella and CBJ GM Jarmo Kekalainen and says the league is “dealing with it."
This is the attitude of a former NHL official when a player sustains a head injury off a dirty and a (very arguably) illegal hit.
And you wonder what’s wrong with this league
Taylor Hall sticks his leg out and knees Ondrej Palat. Hall given two minutes for interference when he should’ve been shown the gate. Arizona down 4-0 with less than 10 mins in third period... cannot make this play
Terrible hit by Noel Acciari on Nicolas Roy. Roy turning into boards doesn't matter here, Acciari is approaching from behind and sees nothing but numbers. Only given a two minute minor, Acciari should've received a five minute major and a game misconduct. Roy has not returned
Cannot blow this call if you're the officials. Fabbro leaves his skates to elbow Brock McGinn directly in the head, who has to go to the locker room, and you call it a minor penalty
So you call the wrong player and the wrong call entirely. Then review it for a major on a different player for a different offense… which arguably isn’t even a minor.
This is disastrous lol
Here is a wide angle shot of Tkachuk charge on Kassian from last night. Tkachuk starts from the faceoff dot, uses 4+ strides without coming into full glide, then hits Kassian from behind. Tkachuk turns into hit so he doesn’t lose momentum. Intent to injure
Tom Wilson is very fortunate Giroux sees him and turns here. Coming from the blindside on a player facing boards.. would've been a major + misconduct and likely a suspension.
Perfect example of a clean hit. For those that say extending upward into a hit/partially leaving your feet is a natural hitting motion, look at this textbook check by Nikita Zadorov. Stays low through hit and doesn’t extend upward. Shoulder on shoulder. Feet never leave the ice.
This is a very strong man leaning into another very strong man and knocking him over with zero upward explosion. Just a nice squat and shoulder lean. Height and posture stay consistent. You don’t need to explode to throw a big check.
#freelesson
Adam Pelech comes up high on Farabee, no call on the play. Pelech doesn't stay low enough, straightens up before the hit making the head a significant point of contact.
Lowry returns from his two game suspension and elbows Alex Tuch directly in the head. Tuch head is down but does not alter position prior to the hit. Lowry is looking at a five game suspension for this.
Realistically, there should be THREE suspensions tonight
This is the SECOND time Milan Lucic has hit
@mferraro77
from behind in a week. Neither were called penalties. Clearly targeting a defenseless player with intent to injure
@NHLPlayerSafety
@RefYouSuck
Recommended suspension for Brenden Dillon is that he serves two games for interference for an egregiously late hit that sent Canucks defenseman Ashton Sautner flying dangerously into the boards. The puck was long gone, this is not finishing a check
@NHLPlayerSafety
@GeorgeParros
If Marchand has a concussion, Bruins medical staff should be ashamed for letting him return.. clearly in distress. Put himself in a vulnerable position to be hit again in third.
Dangerous crosscheck to a defenseless player, who doesn’t have possession, sending him face first into goalpost. Only a two minute minor? Eberle leaves game with likely concussion.. second incident Lindgren has had in a month
Big cheap shot by Mark Stone behind the play on Bozak, whistled two for interference. Blues bench not happy, Bozak appears to hit head on ice going down
