@javix1978 @MaitreyaBhakal Not sure if the OP will take recommendations, but for everyone else reading thru replies, I recommend John Hobson’s Eastern Origins of Western Civilisation for an in-depth, well-researched, data-heavy history of the many inventions that are traced to China.

China: "Chinese civilization is 5000 years old" Historians, archeologists: "Chinese civilization is 5000 years old" UNESCO: "Chinese civilization is 5000 years old" Western media: "China is politicizing history. Chinese civilization is only about 3000-4000 years old"

@MaitreyaBhakal If Chinese civilisation is so old then it makes their relative lack of major civilisational accomplishments even more embarrassing. Why didn’t the scientific revolution happen in China for example? Or who’s the Chinese Beethoven or the Chinese Shakespeare? I’m not impressed tbh.

@valhallaone1 @javix1978 @MaitreyaBhakal It’s dry at times but the number of times the author calls Europe a “backward peninsula” is v satisfying 😂

@nellodee @javix1978 @MaitreyaBhakal An excellent read! The best short version of the whole thing, although he does skate over some areas a bit too loosely at times.
