: Today, I am issuing an Executive Order to stop mass gatherings of more than 100 people across our state. As you know we issued this as guidance on Thursday. However, despite this several venues continued their events, so today’s order makes it mandatory.

spreads. In Catawba County, a gathering of 20+ people w/ no masks or social distancing led to 14 people becoming infected. Those people were unaware they were infected. This set into motion a chain that affected 41 people in 9 families & 8 workplaces.

: We want you to close as soon as possible, and the order takes effect Wednesday. Because of their inability to conduct social distancing, this order also closes hair and nail salons, barber shops, and massage therapists as of 5 PM Wednesday.
A new program will help families buy food for kids impacted by school closings.

The North Carolina Healthcare Association (NCHA) announced its position approved by the association’s board of trustees supporting COVID-19 vaccination requirements for healthcare workers.
In response, Mandy K. Cohen, M.D., NCDHHS Secretary, shared the following statement.

NCDHHS is reporting the first identification in an NC resident of the COVID-19 variant called B.1.1.7, which was first detected in the UK in December. The B.1.1.7 variant was identified in a sample from an adult in Mecklenburg County processed by Mako Medical Laboratories.
Gov. Cooper & NCDHHS Secretary Dr. Cohen today announced that NC will begin a Modified Stay at Home Order that requires people to stay at home between 10 pm & 5 am.
The Order takes effect Friday, Dec 11 & will be in place until at least Jan 8, 2021.
