The left have spent months/years diligently rebuilding trust amongst those who have long thought the left just don't like them - all of this has been torched this last 48hrs. They now have to reconvince a chunk of voters that they wouldn't let this kind of thing happen to you

And it's a tough sell, since a large chunk of those voters hold views they know fine well the progressive left dislike - on immigration, or brexit, or religious views - so why would they trust them to have their back against stuff like this?

The Left have come down firmly on the side of the bankers, against the little man.
That will not go down well in the Red Wall - whose vote Labour desperately needs.
