Reviewers, engage with authors during the discussion period! So many misunderstandings are waiting to be cleared up by great rebuttals, and mistakes that have now been fixed. Don’t get some unlucky grad student’s paper rejected because you were too lazy to engage!

@micahgoldblum My problem, depending on the conference, is I don't get a chance to see the paper again -- a few times people have promised to improve things, then submitted an unchanged paper as the final version. I wish conferences allowed more back and forth, and for reviewers to re-review.

@Azumanga True, but NeurIPS allows authors to upload revised drafts and to discuss with reviewers for a week. A week isn't a lot, but much better to use that week to go back and forth with the authors than to stay silent and not engage with their hard work.
