My youngest has an underlying health need & is on a waiting list for an op. With me having to work in school we took the decision that I’d temporarily move out to reduce the risk of me passing on COVID19. I get to speak to her (& kiss) through a window when I drop off shopping 😍

1/2 For all the teacher bashers in the Isle of Man: I sacrificed this relationship for 10wks during lockdown so that I could work in hub schools. I worked through my Easter holidays and bank holidays. I spoke to countless children & parents at all sorts of times, day and night.

Looked out of the window today to spy three children climbing this tree. We don’t stop tree climbing - we teach the children to risk assess and to manage their own independence and their own risks. It’s nice to see children being children 😊

Here is a photo of my first classroom as an NQT. I was proud of it. Now I look at it & can’t quite believe that I’m so old that I started out with a scrolling blackboard! No such thing as electronic whiteboards back then! And look at that telly!

So, today I have no role at @LaxeySchool . One of my pupils takes the reins as “Headteacher for the Day” having won this as a prize at our Fair. Apparently it’s non-uniform, there’s an outing to the beach and all pupils will receive an ice-cream! Now why didn’t I think of that!?

What a lovely return to school today after #lockdown - brilliant to see all of the pupils coming in with big smiles on their faces 🇮🇲😀 We welcomed them back with music and a balloon archway (non-plastic balloons 100% biodegradable.)

I was given these lovely flowers today by a child as a “thank you” - the seeds were planted in lockdown back when we were all in the midst of remote learning. Look what they’ve blossomed into. Such a beautiful metaphor for hope and the future. Thank you 💛

We’ve had to report the theft of thousands of litres of oil from Laxey School’s oil tank today. No heating, no hot water. Good job I’ve got the best caretaker who has worked hard to liaise with Police and get things moving and to get us all sorted.

Education Minister Alex Allinson said that before the crisis he wouldn’t have referred to teachers as frontline emergency service workers, but ’they are now’. He praised teachers for providing for key workers chn & doing their jobs in a ’dark period like we’ve never seen before’.

Today I closed the door on Laxey School and Dhoon School. Both are fully closed for the foreseeable. Tomorrow, I report for duty as a key worker at Onchan School - one of our “hubs” for key-worker’s children. Onchan School is the primary school I attended as a wee lad. Weird.

A1. I don't ask my teachers for a timetable, nor do I impose one on them. Trust them to deliver the curriculum in a way that works for them and their pupils. So, off timetable doesn't really exist in my schools. #PrimaryRocks
