I'm so thrilled to announce the launch of my podcast, McFly's Movie House, produced by Capital G Media!
Our teaser episode is currently live, and our official first episode will go up next week.
Find us on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube, and more.
Come hang 😉
Oh wow. Woke up to this on letterboxd.
I never thought that 2,000 of you would be reading my *very, very long* thoughts on films that I watch. This is simply the coolest surprise and I can’t express how grateful I am 🥹!
The first episode of McFly’s Movie House is now live! Come hang out with
@sethsfilmreview
and I while we chat about Ingmar Bergman’s career throughout the years 🫶
Hey
@TikTokCanada
@TikTokSupport
@tiktokcreators
you banned me without any warning — & I’ve always been in perfect standing with your app. Let me speak to a human!! Many creators rely on your app for monetary income, and to take it away like this is unheard of and downright cruel
Oh, right! To celebrate the launch of McFly's Movie House, I'm also hosting a giveaway on Instagram and collaborating with the kind folks at
@FilmsRadiance
,
@BFI
, and
@ArtusFilms
for a fantastic physical media haul. Head on over to IG for more details!
Pro tip: instead of going and watching Madame Web this weekend, I feel like everyone should go check out Wenders’ delightful new film, Perfect Days (which just so happens to be released in Canada today) instead ;)
Rewatched Con Air last night and gave it 4/5 stars. Lost a few letterboxd followers after that, but y’know what, if you can’t follow up a Tarkovsky film with some unhinged fun, you’re just not my people. Sorry.
Alright folks. No more wallowing from me. Will be making an announcement regarding TikTok come Monday and would welcome any and all support. You guys have been wonderful so far and I appreciate all of you <3
Yet another spectacular example of how skilled Hamaguchi is at observing human nature with his restrained yet thoughtful approach. Evil Does Not Exist is equal parts serene and quietly devastating.
Crying, sobbing, vomiting that my screener for Challengers isn’t until Wednesday here in Vancouver. Everyone just seems to be having the beeeeest time over on letterboxd. I’m so happy for you all :’)
Am I masochist? Who knows. Anyway, I started a brand-new tiktok account while I privately deal with getting the old one back. Any help spreading the word on this one is appreciated (and I promise I’ll shut up about this after this tweet)
Wenders’ Perfect Days is something else. I’m a bundle of emotions. I want to smile, I want to cry, I’m just *overwhelmed* in the best way. Also, very obviously the best soundtrack of 2023.
After going through a marathon of preparing to record five podcast episodes this weekend, I cannot express how happy I am to *finally* catch up on what feels like so many new releases, starting with Hit Man today, duh.
Get your hands on The Shape of Night once
@FilmsRadiance
releases it at the end of this month. Sublime with its visuals, yet cripplingly tragic. Oooft, what a film.
Solo episode alert! This week at McFly’s Movie House, I’m exploring iconic film scores and soundtracks that I adore 🫶 Hope ya’ll are okay with my lonesome yapping <3
Going through a very Not Fun Time for weeks now and am in dire need of comfort watches — asap. Drop some titles below that soothe your soul when your entire life feels like it’s on fire :’)
I had the amazing opportunity to sit down with David Dastmalchian to talk Late Night with the Devil.
We chatted his inspirations for the film, what it’s like to step into a lead role, and the usage of AI generated images in the film.
Check it out 😊
One silver lining of this ridiculous ban: I’m dedicating more time to becoming a huge Aki Kaurismäki fangirl. His stories are built around working-class underdogs just trying to survive, yet he injects his world with a blunt, deadpan humour that’s hitting juuust right for me rn
Finally decided to pause the Ross/Reznor Challengers score binge by defaulting back to anything Vangelis and *specifically* Philip Glass’ score for Paul Schrader’s Mishima. Familiar comforts 💆♀️
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg may be my favourite tale of “right person, wrong time.”This week on the podcast, Ash Laskey and I talk about Jacques Demy’s unofficial romance trilogy and the colorful & endearing worlds he so magnificently crafted 💖
The lovely folks at
@LDMpod
had me on to chat about my all-time fave film: In the Mood for Love (and Harry crushed me in a round of movie trivia, but that’s besides the point)
Episode 18 of the Love, Death, and Movies Podcast is now live across Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Podcasts!!

Now (re)watching: The Happiness of the Katakuris by Takashi Miike. Guesting on a pod tmrw & and I was asked to pick a bonkers hidden gem so… I’m pretty sure this is one of the weirdest things I’ve ever experienced

The Daytrippers has officially entered my pantheon of fave comfort movies so I felt it was my civic duty to pass this along in case anybody else needs to chill out this weekend 🤍
@TylerCWhitmore
I’m always anxious to post a glowing review of a movie I got an early screener to for that exact reason lol. What if I actually really really liked it :’)
Just your gentle reminder that 1947’s Nightmare Alley leaves
@criterionchannl
in a few days! I checked it out last night and actually preferred it to GDT’s remake.
Figured now is a good time to highlight how much I’ve loved checking out Mikio Naruse’s work lately on
@criterionchannl
. If you’re a fan of Ozu but want a bit more bite & melancholy (lol, me lately), check out his filmography.
@marta___mcfly
You humble me. Can't wait to see it.
Just wish more of his oeuvre was available domestically. Liked your comparison of him & Ozu in your WAWATS Letterboxd review.
I know Hideko Takamine adored him & loved working with him
&
"Mono no aware" is always associated with his films
Our March review round up highlights reviews of Love Lies Bleeding, Dune: Part Two, Perfect Days, Road House, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Things Will Be Different, The Beast and more!
Whenever I'm in need of some soul-searching, I turn to an Abbas Kiarostami film. This week on the pod,
@mpgermenis
and I discuss Kiarostami's Koker Trilogy along with 1997's Taste of Cherry, all of which work to unveil beauty in the ordinary.
This week on

@BStarrCinema
& I break down 1968’s The Swimmer, a bizarre fever dream starring Burt Lancaster that depicts the fading American Dream while also illustrating the suppression of reality & the passage of time
A breakthrough in the form of a new double feature came to me last eve. The Girlies At Their Limit cinematic universe: Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown and Blue Jasmine 🤝
Sigh. classic conundrum: dumping so much money into my physical media display and finally setting it up… yet noticing that Vinegar Syndrome is having a mighty fine sale 👀
Oh, this was fun. I went on the
@MovieOubliette
pod to chat about Takashi Miike’s Happiness of the Katakuris. What a film. What a strange, strange film.
