I was just 23 years old in 1989 and it was my first year as @F1 test driver for the @WilliamsRacing team. As you can see things were a lot more basic back then. So I didn’t have my official race suit & Dave Lang shown in the photo (photo supplied by Dave) didn’t have team kit on.

Not one driver can comment unless they have done it and then when they do they will respect it and anyone who sits outside and passes comment does not understand motor racing as oval racing is as tough as any sort of motorsport at exists

I have felt under pressure on the grid before but by people called Senna, Prost, Schumacher, Mansell, Piquet and so on. Bodyguards visiting the grid for the first time don’t bother me, everyone’s got a job to do, but they could maybe learn some manners and respect on our patch 🤔

I remember vividly looking in my right mirror & seeing huge blisters on my right rear tyre & feeling massive viabration, blisters approx 3cm wide & I took decision to keep planted & race hard to the end & if tyres blew then so be it, that’s what won me the race the choice I made
