Barack Obama did something terrible to liberals. He made them believe that they transcended politics. Then, when they lost the political battle of 2016, they had no mental equipment with which to cope with it except RESIST.

That's exactly what demagogues do, make it about themselves. Unfortunately, the current president doesn't seem to be much better at it. Some would argue worse. American politics have been well and truly transcended.

This is so true. They thought it was over. Just mop up work on deck and smooth sailing from here on out. Then they discovered that the people they had grown accustomed to hold beneath contempt still had fight in them. They are still reeling.

They should have been prepared. They lost 4,000 seats in state legislatures, a super majority in the Senate and the majority in the House during the Obama years.
