"This study suggests credit score may have a utility as a companion to traditional metrics used in identifying candidates for surgery residencies and fellowships..." π±π±π±
Who on EARTH thought this study was a good idea?!

So, medical students with low financial means and socioeconomic barriers won't be productive surgeons? That's the conclusion we're making now? Abhorrent.

As if the current residency system wasn't malignant enough or didn't introduce enough bias towards applications from lower-income backgrounds ... ugh. And, of course, someone wants to study its predictive value on "professionalism". ππ‘

I'm sure credit scores do predict success in an academic program. As do income and whiteness and parental education levels and zip code. But all that damns the current system, and building an assessment program to reinforce that system shows breathtaking malice.
