non-disabled people listen and rt i stg
it is the third to last day of disabled pride month and yet again i’ve only seen either disabled ppl posting about it or non-disableds making a quick post after seeing popular disabled ppl mentioning it 1/9
we constantly are undermined and not listened to, even when it’s supposedly “our month”
i’ve seen so many issues of people being harassed after talking about accessibility needs they have and i’m sick of seeing it
there’s a serious issue of disabled ppl being ignored here 2/9
i am multiply disabled and as such often cannot make posts like these due to fatigue and focusing on my own mental and physical health rather than constantly asking to be acknowledged
please, non-disableds, do better !!
able-bodied people, do better !! 3/9
something i want to talk about as i can and i’ve seen this be a big issue in disabled spaces this month is the use of the words “cripple” and “crippling”
cripple is a SLUR for PHYSICALLY DISABLED PEOPLE ONLY !!!!!!
using terms like “crippling depression” speaks over 4/9
experiences that are unique to physically disabled people !!
i have major depressive disorder so i know that sometimes depression makes you unable to get out of bed, but there’s a HUGE difference between that and being unable to get out of bed due to pain/fatigue/dizziness 5/9
this month i’ve seen physically disabled people be spoken over time and time again and im fucking sick of it
please non-disableds reflect on what you’ve done for disabled ppl (physical and mental disabilities) and DO BETTER !!!
idc if i come off as rude bc i am so tired 6/9
and angry at constantly being looked over so i cannot bother with watching my tone
non-disableds pls listen to disabled voices !!
and disabled ppl pls take care of yourself and rest, ik it’s been a rough month <333
if anyone is interested pls check out my tumblr related 7/9
disabled people, i love you and i’m sorry for how this month has treated us, we deserved better
pls everyone, remember to uplift disabled voices at all times !! 9/9
SERIOUS.
Okay, now that i have the chance to. My opinions on how absolutely shitty disabled people have been treated this month. Non-disableds Fucking retweet. Im not even kidding, rt. /srs
seen a few other disabled people talk about it on tl, but yeah i do wish more had been done for us this disability pride month. i’ve barely seen any non-disabled people talking about it at all. the small amount of support we’ve had has meant a lot. but there’s barely been any :/
i’m muting this thread bc the notifs are breaking my phone but pls dm me or send me a curious cat if you have any questions or anything you want to add !!!
