11/ The truth many don’t tell you about successful entrepreneurs: they’re just like you. They had no clue what they were doing when they started. They were terrified. They were nervous. If I told you I knew what I’m doing today, I’d be lying. I just figure stuff out every day 🤷♂️
2/ I know it sounds crazy. It was actually quite crazy. I used this truck to roll around driving Uber. I had no choice in all reality. I had to pay bills and hustle while I grew a list of accounts. Pretty much every passenger I rolled up on was incredibly confused at first.
3/ Typically once they hopped in and asked why I was in a pool truck, I’d explain I just started a SMB. Majority of people were really cool after that and respected the hustle. I actually got a lot of really great advice in those rides. Ran in to a lot of other SMB owners.
3/ The older ones were by far the coolest. Always encouraging. The most common piece of advice I got was to not give up. No matter what. Don’t give up. To be in a different spot 7 years later where I can give advice, I’d tell someone the same. It’s so easy to quit.
4/ Our very first client, whom we’ve had since day one, came from a Tuesday night at 2am. Picked up this lady’s son. He said their pool was green. Hired me the next week. Been there ever since.
5/ Picked up hundreds of passengers over those couple years at all hours of the night. All kinds of crazy stories. I could’ve easily said driving Uber is below me. I’m an entrepreneur. Not a cab driver. I actually picked up many accounts driving. Gave a ride to zac brown band’s..
6/ band mates during country music fest (don’t meet your heroes btw). Gave a ride one night to a guy who owns the largest pool company in Charlotte. His advice was to keep my wife close. You’ll cry like a baby some nights and want to quit. You’ll need her.
7/ Gave a ride to a college age girl whose bf literally broke up w her right before she hopped in. Like bro good lookin out for a fellow bro. That was terrible. Longest ride I ever gave was about an hour and a half. Those get awkward after 15 minutes.
8/ I’ll never forget the things I learned while driving Uber. Our biz wouldn’t be where it’s at today without Uber in all reality. It was incredibly tough at the time, but I’m so glad I did it.
9/ My best advice to an entrepreneur getting started: hustle. If you aren’t going to hustle, might as well not start. Hustle like you’re about to lose everything. It’ll be incredibly hard financially for the first few years. You’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish.

Also, it was much harder and more complicated to start a business than I thought. tackling it day by day made it manageable, it would have been overwhelming, if I had known everything ahead of time.
@ajaxx63
I think about this often. I see so many people way smarter than me talk about starting for years but I think they overthink it. I think sometimes it helps to be dumb enough to try.

Such a great thread. Nice work.
Great story!
I went into my first winter terrified that I wouldn't make it.
So I helped one of my accounts on catering jobs and worked at a brewery a cpl nights here and there. was the best thing I could have done. Met so many great people
