Keeping Time is a queer, adult webcomic that’s a bummer of a romance between two deeply flawed, not-at-all-wholesome guys who fell out in high school and now made the terrible decision to be in a band again.

Today I learned my partner has been keeping a secret from me for 10 months.
He's been "monitoring" the daily progress of a desiccated carrot in our fridge since August 2022 and the only reason I found it is because he forgot to tuck it back behind the oat milk cartons
In 1997, I wanted to be a comic artist. In 2007, I put down my pen and gave up on. In 2017, I picked up a pen and tried drawing again, just for fun.
Yesterday I got my first check from a major comics publisher.
You go to sleep, thinking you know the person in bed next to you.. until one day you realize they're not that person. They're a person who has been hiding a secret carrot from you for 10 months
We've now had a discussion on the pros and cons of throwing away his "science experiment"
Pro: it will be out of my fridge
Con: he will be very sad and upset because he's so committed and has spent almost a year on this "project"
Please. If you live in any of these states, don't just retweet. Take action. Contact your state legislators. Cis allies need to stop saying "I see you and you're valid" and actually step in and HELP. Resources on how to do so in the thread.
All my NA East Coast friends suffering from the smoke, if your area is sold out of HEPA fans and purifiers, try to get your hands on a box fan and a furnace filter. You can inexpensively DIY a decent air purifier for a small, enclosed space!
@IfSheBeWorthy
I THOUGHT IT WAS A GOURD STEM. I was like "there's some sort of pumpkin stem in the fridge?" and he got the guilty look of a toddler whose done something wrong
Apropos of today: an artist posting NSFW art is NEVER an invitation to initiate a private conversation with them about YOUR sexuality/sexual interests.
This is really unpleasant to do, but I've spoken to a bunch of comics creators of marginalized genders today (women, trans folk, non-binary folk) who all have negative experiences with
@lachwriter
ranging from unpleasant to explicit sexual harassment.
One of the reasons I burnt out so quickly in Japan was because I had to perform gender in new, more encompassing ways than I was used to. The worst being, as someone femme-presenting at the time, learning what sort of places were socially acceptable for me to eat at alone. 1/4
"In 1935, artists could buy land and a house with one advertising assignment" (which was between $3,500-$5,000 USD... the same dollar amount we get today... 🥲)
So tonight my art appeared on national television, because Fenix wore the shirt I drew on AEW Dynamite. I am attempting to process this but as of yet I am still in stunned disbelief
I keep losing followers as I tweet more about trans rights and I can only think: a lot of you didn't check who I am at all before hitting follow, huh? I am trans myself, have trans loved ones, and even if I wasn't and didn't, I would still stand up for basic human rights.
@SamAburime
When I was in my 20s studying abroad in Japan, another US student and I pirated this to show it to our Korean friend who only spoke Korean and Japanese, and there were no subtitles and yet it still nearly made him cry
Someone asked how I did the 90s shoujo anime effect, so I slapped this together. It touches on 4 visual points of an old 90s cel I latched onto and wanted to recreate!

! I'm a genderqueer illustrator, comic artist, & wrestling fan. I'm drawing RUBBER MATCH, a BL/shounen inspired pro-wrestling romance written by Elizabeth Brei! I enjoy focusing on queer stories that know it's a given that we belong.
Hey
@DCComics
, if you're considering making a Batman Beyond film, I just wanted to let you know my schedule is wide open and I am ready to be your creative consultant. I know the exact amount of himbo Terry McGinnis needs to be
The U.S. had over 1 million new covid cases yesterday, and with ~1 in 4 covid infections leading to long covid, we just made ~250,000 new long-term disability patients in a single day and this seems to concern me more than it does the U.S. administration
If you have little or no experience hiring artists, I understand working with one may be daunting, and you may not know what to expect.
While all artists are different, there are some stages of the process that are universal, and that you, the client should be involved in.🧵
I understand the sentiment, but putting the burden on working artists is not the answer. Artists shouldn't have to jump through more hoops to get paid. The onus should be on CLIENTS to educate themselves on how to discern AI art and what to reasonably expect from collaboration.
For 2022, I wanna share my best business practices as a freelance comic artist that helped save my sanity last year, from email practices to accounting and taxes. (Written from a US-based perspective, but everything here is accessible internationally)!
A very short thread 🧵:
Hey

, I'm Kira, a queer Japanese-American comic artist. I've done covers for pubs like IDW, Image, & Skybound. I'm working on my own GN about music, grief, & coming of age in your mid-20s. Looking for cover work for late May-July.

...HEY HI. After years of wanting to, I'm finally changing my name to something gender euphoric that keeps all my initials, so. Nice to meet you! I'm Kody Okamoto (they/them), a comic artist currently working on a story about grief and falling in love with your bandmate.
Oh hey, looks like you've turned your television set to the rerun of BATS IN THE RING, a main event pro-wrestling match featuring some of your favorite batboys. Have a seat, sit back, and let's watch some WRESTLING. 🧵

BATS IN THE RING series, a thread🦇
This is a set of sequential illustrations I've wanted to do for ages but never found the right time to start. So here we go, batfam meets pro wrestling for no other reason than it's fun as heck for me to draw! Updated as the series progresses.

✨The following match is scheduled for one-fall... in LOVE. ✨
RUBBER MATCH is now LIVE on Kickstarter! A BL- & sports manga-inspired comic oneshot about two pro-wrestlers who are rivals, friends, tag team partners and… perhaps more?
I've come to accept that monthly comics are out of reach for artists that want a work life balance (which they should.)
But Dan Mora also exists and does two full issues every month like a crazy person.
My favorite food is ramen or oyakodon, but it was Socially Weird for a Japanese-passing femme person in their 20s to eat at a ramen-ya or certain chain restaurants alone. I eventually found a soup place in Kyoto Station where I observed a lot of women eating alone at. 2/4
The Japanese government awarded me their most prestigious scholarship: a year of tuition to a famous university + a monthly stipend to live off of because I had literal perfect grades.
I spent thousands of dollars of my stipend on illegally obtaining tattoos in Osaka.😌
#MyBrag
Okay, my challenge of the day.
I want you to brag about yourself for one tweet. No humblebragging, no apologizing, no including your faults at all.
For some, this is a breeze, some have never done it even once.
Please use hashtag
#MyBrag
and say something great about you.
It's
#TransDayOfVisibility
and to be honest, by a lot of folks' standards, I'm not very visible. It's a conscious choice I make as a queer, trans Japanese-American. It's a choice that is necessary for my survival. It doesn't always bring me joy, but it's what's right for me. 1/3

I love ramen so much, though, that I did end up eating by myself at lots of ramen places, strange looks from the men eating there be damned. Some bowls of food are worth enduring judgement for, you know? 4/4
