Academia: Spend your life absorbing everything that's ever been said about a topic in order to hopefully add a tiny increment of original thought to it
Tech: Disregard everything that's ever been said about a topic and confidently rediscover other fields' most basic ideas

Norm MacDonald once explained how even if nobody watches your network TV show, it still gets credited with like 1M viewers just bc people leave their TVs on all the time. I wonder how much economic activity today falls into that category.
