Today, I had my final counselling session over an eight-week period and I wanted to mark it with a little Twitter thread. I think we all know there is a stigma around mental health still and I think it's important to share your experience (if you feel strong enough to do so).
I have avoided counselling like the PLAGUE for years - I just was never ready for it - but over Christmas I had a fairly horrible experience and it brought forth a wave of issues and dragged up most of my pre-existing woes.
I was lucky enough to discover that Pan Macmillan subscribe to a programme that offers short-term private counselling and was able to see somebody within about two weeks. I am SUPER grateful for that because I might not have done it otherwise.
Here is what I will say about counselling if you have ever considered it: do it when you are ready. It is so valuable - but it is hard work. I have spent two months being up and down then up then down again and it has been a big challenge to go about life as per norm.
But it has allowed me to confront things that have been sat on for YEARS and most importantly to understand myself and allow for self reflection. I have a lot of new tools in my box (oo er) to take on for life now and look back to if needed.
Finally: I think we often thing other people have got their shiz together because we all hide behind a bit of a 'too cool for school' wall. I wanted to tweet and share this in case it helps anybody to feel better or make a decision, or just feel like they aren't alone. THE END!

Kat! The biggest hug! 👂💛💚💙💜💖
(I've been in and out of counselling/therapy - just wish I'd realised sooner in life there IS help out there . . . find it, take it - so glad you did! Vx!)
