a career as a writer is not inaccessible because some writers advise writing daily or generalize about “hard work.” it’s inaccessible bc even the best, most disciplined writers can’t make a living doing it.
a living as a writer is something we all deserve, in the sense that we all deserve a living. to write professionally under these circumstances, however, is another matter entirely.
all of which is to say: no one is hurting you by advising hard work or sharing the details of their own practice. the fact of the matter is that a sustainable writing process is vanishingly available to anyone who is not independently wealthy.
i know so many excellent writers who are best know for what is, essentially, lifestyle content bc they can’t afford to live otherwise! that or you rarely see their work bc they’re too busy pulling extra shifts at trader joe’s!

Hi, I don’t want to assume this tweet thread is a subtweet, but in case it is, let me clear up a few things.
1. I agree with everything you said here; we could have just had a conversation instead of you tweeting all this. Obviously you don’t owe me anything, but it feels weird.
