You could show this to every college player on video on the first day of October practices as the definition of what a moving screen is. It doesn’t matter what time of the game it happens. The whole “you can’t call that in that spot” cope is just emotional bullshit.
Nothing to do with the outcome, but part of me wonders if Caitlin Clark doesn’t just retreat to a quiet space and decompress for a few days. As Dawn Staley says, she’s been carrying a lot of weight this year. For the entire game. The media requests, commercials, not getting to
I am stunned. I didn't think Iowa would win this game. And they absolutely crushed the best offensive team in the sport. It was well played, the officials did a solid job of letting them play basketball, the talent level was insane. It reminded me of being on the sidelines
She's simply the best to ever play the women's game. And I am to the point, after she delivers time after time after time, where she is my favorite Iowa Hawkeye of all time, any sport, any era, anything. It's her. The legacy that she is creating is unlike anything I have seen,
If u are 35, you were not alive when

Michigan. But you have heard us old folks always talk about it. Congrats, now we welcome you into the club, because you just experienced one of the biggest wins in school history, and one of the most memorable plays in Kinnick
Caitlin Clark handles the media and press conferences better than most any professional athletes I have ever seen. It's effortless to her, and she almost always says the exact right thing. Gracious, confident, humble...
This is one of the biggest wins in the history of the Iowa athletic department. One of the bigger David slays Goliath moments in women’s basketball history when you consider the stage, what’s at stake, South Carolina’s winning streak, and Iowa as the double digit underdog.
I feel quite confident in saying that there has never been an Iowa team or player that is this ubiquitous in the national zeitgeist than this Iowa women’s basketball team and Caitlin Clark. And there never will be again. How lucky have we been to

Mid-Majors have helped to truly put the Madness in March. However, Obi Toppin played against the 105th toughest schedule (per KenPom) and
@LukaG_55
against the 4th toughest. Not to mention the murderers's row of B1G big men this year. These voters need their heads checked.
That’s one of the most enjoyable and gratifying wins I have ever experienced as an Iowa fan. Jan to Lisa after they went through the handshake line: “We did it.” Lisa replied, “Yes, we did”.
Iowa just beat the
#9
team in the nation in a quasi road game, by nine points, despite being -18 on the boards and minus seven on the offensive glass, and shooting just 29% from three...because they are tougher than your grandpa's leather jacket.
14 years ago today I took my last drink. I didn't know at the time it would be my last drink. And I was terrified the first day of AA, wondering how I could stay sober. It's truly one day at a time, never think about the forever. Think about one thing; don't drink today.
I get chills thinking of what it is going to be like in that Iowa locker room before the game today. Each of them knowing that this is absolutely the final time in life that they will get to experience being with each other in this way, doing these things, together.
To never
Illinois is better than Iowa. But the style of play these refs are allowing is straight bullshit and it's not basketball and I am so sick and tired of Big Ten officials allowing this sort of affront to the rules of the game
Iowa finishes the regular season dead last among all 130 FBS schools in total offense at 246.3 yards per game. What is staggering, relative to 12 games being played, is that the 129th rated offense, or second worst in the sport, averaged 24.1 MORE yards per game.
Also, LSU
If losing every scholarship receiver from the 21 roster is what it takes for Kirk to tweak his archaic and dead on arrival offensive scheme, then I am all for it. Good luck to all who leave and let’s get on with modernization
Kirk reiterated this weekend that Deacon Hill gives Iowa its best chance of success at the position. OK. Then, Iowa's evaluation and development of QB's needs a complete and total overhaul.
In the end, Iowa got 8 games. They played 8 straight weeks. They end the season on a 6-game win streak. Given all that has taken place in the world since March, I am thankful for the enjoyable distraction Iowa football was from the bitter bile of reality that was 2020
I can't recall the last time the Hawkeyes drew tears from me...this team...they have. Maybe it's knowing that things like this are rare...I don't know...I don't care. I am just so happy for these players and coaches.
Iowa losing WR to portal, yeah. Makes sense. But losing a starting CB to the portal, when Iowa has helped CB’s print NFL money for a while now (and linebacker, too)? That’s a head scratcher…at a minimum.
15 years ago I was emailing my pastor, disagreeing with the church’s stance on ordaining gay pastors. Was a straight up homophobe. Today, I am proudly marching in the KC Pride Parade with . It is true; Love wins. Always
Nebraska, we thank you for your efforts and fighting for football to return. As your reward you will play Ohio State and Penn State to start the season. Now go get your shine box, and don't ever talk back to us again. Sincerely, the Big Ten front office
Ladies and Gentlemen....what a team. What a freaking team. This team is unlike any Iowa team I can remember. Not the best, but they might be the most connected Iowa team I can recall....and one of the toughest minded. I love everyone.
I turn 51 tomorrow. My 19 year old has been urging me to get a tattoo. I have never had one. I just decided I am. Yesterday, I said bury me in script 𝓘𝓸𝔀𝓪. Someday, they will.
just keep your eye on upper left hend portion of screen....this is just ruining football...and its happening all over...Purdue was doing it the other night, Penn State did it at Iowa...etc.
There has been excellent sportsmanship, if you are into that sort of thing, tonight. Gabbie helping up Johnson, Johnson helping up Martin, not a ton of trash talk. Better officiating than last year. It just lets the amazing talent shine!!!
Well, with Big Ten football being done, and B12, ACC and SEC going forward...I have decided to adopt a team to cheer for this year. After much deliberation and contemplation, I have made my pick. Please respect my decision.
@elonmusk
What percentage of the electricity that your car buyers used to recharge your electronic cars comes from Coal, or other fossil fuels, do you think? Or the hydrocarbon feedstocks used to make the parts for your cars? This is such a specious point you are attempting to make.
You win by 16 on the road at a KenPom

...SH made several runs at you in the second half, and you did not panic, and you answered each time. That is a real nice win
1. I don't want Iowa to lose.
2. I don't want Iowa to lose. Just wanted that to be clear.
3. If they are going to lose, I would prefer that the offense continues to look absolutely horrific, if only to have maximum heat this offseason.
4. I don't want Iowa to lose.
The trouble I am having watching College Football this year is that when I turn on the TV, regardless of game, I see offense. I see good offense, I see average offense, I see below average offense...and every single thing I see is better than what Iowa has been doing this year.
Spit on, called a bitch, flipped off countless times...my daughter Grace had a day. She stood in the face of some pretty stiff hate, but never flinched. My proudest day as a parent. Drove there on her own, navigated the situation on her own. My heart.
This is one of those precious nights of sports fandom where I just don’t want to go to bed. What a night. Watched the replay already and still stunned. Will podcast in AM.
really don't know how that isn't targeting. Just because the collision wasn't violent enough? The defender lowered his head...led with his head...make head to head contact.
I am literally sitting here laughing in disbelief. Been watching Iowa hoops since their Final Four team. Nobody in that time has been anything like Garza. Stokes, Earl, Horton...none of them.
Just finished watching Iowa beat VT. A few thoughts...
1. The only thing that was below A level for Caitlin Clark tonight was her shooting. But everything else was fantastic, and she played the full 40 minutes. She did have a double-double, if you count fouls drawn. SVP
This freaking team....I don't know that I can recall a season like this one for Iowa. Not saying its the best team, because it's not...it's just the out of nowhere coming together, turning into something that is legit playing as well as any Iowa team in March in 30+ years.
Over the last two, probably three years, Fran has really transitioned this program to one that is a lot tougher, a lot more dog in it, than they had earlier in his tenure. this team seems like they will carry on that trajectory quite nicely
Though I was away from twitter, I watched the games. I've never seen the likes of Luka Garza at Iowa, and I doubt I will see such a player like him at Iowa again. One of my all time favorite players, not just because he is great, but because he seems like an even better human
Luka Garza Named AP First-Team All-America.

Learning ALL history of our nation relative to ALL peoples is very important. It was not taught when I was in school. The first thing one can gain from having a broad exposure to all histories from all peoples (and perhaps the most important thing) is compassion for all peoples
By the way and non-sequitur, Spencer Petras is exactly the kind of person you’d want to hire into your company or be in a foxhole with. He deserves everyone’s respect. Tough as nails, loyal teammate and high accountability and integrity.
The Iowa game today was big medicine. I had been planning on coming to see this game for a while now, but last month, some news changed things. I was in Iowa this weekend, seeing my folks. Mom has been diagnosed with dementia. My daughters came up with me...and it was a pretty
Iowa is in a unique position to establish themselves as one of THE meccas and landing places in a sport. They need to lean into Women's Hoops as much as possible. Rally NIL donations specifically for that sport now...build the foundation for post-Clark era now. Capitalize now.
Just an incredible season for the Iowa women. One of the most enjoyable sports seasons of my fandom. Such an inspiring group of women who have helped to bring so many more eyes into the sport. That will be a part of their legacy, and what a legacy it is
Iowa is pretty much who they are going to be, offensively, this season. For me, if they don’t make systemic changes next year, I’m to the point where I am just probably going to find other things to do on beautiful fall Saturdays. Under center, I-Formation relying on TE is dead
When I think back on all the games I’ve really, really, wanted Iowa to win, Friday’s game against So Carolina is near the top. If Iowa can win that game it would be one of the greatest athletic department wins in school history. I’d put it up against most any I can think of.
ISU player that scored right before the half was nearly tackled. Officiating sucks. This is basketball, not football. Hell, that is a holding penalty in football. This sport needs an enema. Freedom of motion has to be mandated, period, or call it something else.
I see your tweets to me about Petras. Use logic here. Clearly, Petras has played poorly enough, for long enough, to be benched. So I would encourage you to stop trashing Petras and direct your angst to the person who chooses who plays and who sits.
Well, I just don't see how you can keep trotting Petras out there...yes, I realize I am typing this before halftime of the first game. And they are still figuring things out on the offensive line. But, it's time to move on. Stop chasing bad money with good money
If
@LukaG_55
comes back to Iowa next year, if next year's team can play with the mental and physical toughness of this year's team, if can stay healthy & if there is a season at all, I think the 2020-2021 Iowa basketball team can legitimately contend for the national championship
Iowa didn’t finish .500 or better in Big Ten play in Fran’s first two years. He was digging out of the worst ever hole in Iowa hoops history. Since then, Iowa has finished below .500 just once, the same number as MSU in same span. That impresses me, and it’s not a given in this
I am smiling ear to ear watching this team, watching them have the time of their lives, watching them clinch a Big Ten title on their home court in front of a sold out crowd...which they deserve every second of this adulation and juice. What a payoff for them.
When it comes to sports meccas...you know them. Pro football, Lambeau is a no brainer. Baseball? Wrigley and Fenway. College Wrestling? It's Carver Hawkeye Arena and it's not even debatable
Now for one of my favorite Black Friday traditions, going through Husker writer tweets and visiting their message boards after their annual loss to Iowa
Iowa is
#1
in the nation in takeaways & INTs, 4th best scoring def, the 8th best total def, the 3rd best pass effic def & 11th best rushing def through half the season and has sent 5 of 6 oppo QBs to bench early vs the 10 toughest schedule per Sagarin. This ain’t luck, it’s Iowa
Caitlin Clark has 161 points and 52 assists in this NCAA Tournament.
Since 2000, it's one of six instances of a player having 150 points and 50 assists in ANY 5-game span.
All six of those belong to Caitlin Clark.
I like Padilla’s feet. If he can be competent in the pocket, he can extend drives with those feet. I’m not even gonna grade him on todays action. Shitty spot to see first action of year.
I hope LeVar is Iowa’s next head coach. He’s learned from a Hall of Famer for two decades. He was coached by both Fry and Ferentz. He played in the NFL. He has all the experience he needs and people skills in copious amounts. He also knows the unique challenges of the Iowa job
What makes
@HawkeyeFootball
LeVar Woods is one of college football’s best — and most beloved — assistants? It’s his attention to detail and ability to build relationships.
He also wants to become a head coach.
@TheAthleticCFB
Definitely had a choice. Also had a choice to decline the bowl bid and send the players home. Mizzou was clearly not seriously concerned about whether or not they played a bowl game. They cost Iowa a bowl game and they cost another team who was shut out a bowl game
Drinkwitz said he believed it was important for his players’ mental health to have the opportunity to go home for the holidays. Personal opinion here: He should be applauded for that. Let’s keep priorities straight here and the Music City Bowl frankly isn’t that high on the list
I am almost 50 years old..and I am just sitting in front of my screen grinning from ear to ear, getting so much joy out of watching this basketball team. I make no apologies.
My gosh this is glorious, is it not? All weekend, I just feel like a kid again....back to when Iowa hoops was on a national stage and playing in huge games regularly...today just feels so elite. Loving every second of it.
I’m sitting here thinking of Iowa’s offense in the 2022 football season looking like it looked this year, and I’m not sure I can deal with that again. It’s all dark thoughts right now
Was thinking about Kirk Ferentz..He has NEVER had this much consecutive time away from football. This gives him a glimpse of what retirement cld look like. He will either be attracted to it & hasten it OR not like it all and stay at HC for Iowa another 5+ years. I bet on latter
I am just soaking this in...because I know for certain, I won't be alive to see anything like this ever again. Shoot, maybe no one will. Clark is one of one
From 0-2, to six in a row. I was (wrongly) concerned that Kirk could lose the locker room after that 0-2 start on the heels of the offseason that Iowa went through. The opposite happened; they grew closer together. Hats off to all involved.
I just keep scrolling twitter, reading every article I can find...it's one of those rare sports fandom days where I just dont want to go to bed...because then it will be over.
My wife & I celebrate our 22nd Anniversary today. We had more than enuf reasons to call it quits. Thanks to her, she did not, so we did not. If you need encouragement in your marriage, listen to my wife & I share our rocky story. There is always hope.
Iowa is averaging 4.17 yards per play, This is 128th out of 131 teams..so, not good. It has been tough to watch at times. One of Iowa's worst offenses in a half century. But think of how much it sucks to play Iowa's D; they are allowing 3.81/yds a play. This story gets better
Iowa moves up to the
#1
line in offensive efficiency on KenPom. Defense…148. But hey, we don’t tune in to watch defense. At least, not during basketball season.
Holy cow...when you live life one day at a time, LIFE really does just happen. 15 years ago today, I took my last drink. I never realized it at the time, but that was it. I still have my family, and another amazing daughter I never would have had.
