"If China breaches LAC again, Russia will not come running to India's defence": US deputy NSA Daleep Singh.
Did anyone, for that matter, come running to India's defence in 2020?
India is not a client state of any great power. It's not part of any alliance system. The world's 2nd most populous country & the 7th largest economy, it'd not like to be told in public what it should do and what it shouldn't. Daleep Singh missed this vital point in Delhi.
Takeaways from from the

story
1. Journalists don't care for facts;
2. Celebrities are waiting for a chance to display their moral anger without hurting those in power;
3. Netas won't miss any chance for communalisation;
4. Human life is cheap in this country.
In 1991, a Japanese translator of Rushdie's

I don't get why India is being singled out and attacked by DC--right from Biden--and some analysts/media over its neutrality on the Ukraine war. Israel, America's top ally in WA, is neutral; UAE, which hosts US troops, is neutral. Turkey, a Nato ally, hasn't joined sanctions.
The Indian middle class is so hypocritical that the death of hundreds of migrant labourers won't move them an inch but the death of an elephant would trigger a firestorm on Twitter.
Essentials: Hijab is the headscarf; Niqab is the face veil; abaya is the body-length robe and burqa is the garment covering the whole body, from head to feet. I see it all mixed up in the current

Twitter has blocked the official handle of the Congress and its leaders in India. Meanwhile, Taliban handles are giving the daily updates of their military takeovers and assassinations on Twitter.
Canada has the intel capacity to conclude that the Indian state was involved in the killing of the leader of a Khalistani outfit but it didn't know someone who had been living in the country for decades was a Nazi before inviting and honouring him in its Parliament?
Please tell me this: what stops a govt that spent ₹3000 crore to build a statue & is planning to spend ₹20,000 crore on redeveloping the Central Vista from rolling out universal free adult vaccination, like several other countries did, in the midst of this raging pandemic?
India, known for its precolonial architectural marvels, has since 1947 built an economy that's now bigger than its former colonial masters. It's built universities, hospitals, dams, airports, metros & what not! But contemporary Churchills are still obsessed with the beauty of VT.
Trudeau's allegations are based on the intel gathered by his agents & an investigation is on. Even if the allegations turn out to be true, it is quite unusual for a PM to raise them publicly naming a friendly country & expelling its diplomat. It shows the current status of ties.
India’s sovereignty cannot be compromised. External forces can be spectators but not participants.
Indians know India and should decide for India. Let's remain united as a nation.

One myth about Israel is that it is surrounded by enemies. The fact is that no Arab country has attacked Israel since 1973. In 73, Egypt did so to get Sinai back. In 1978, 1982 & 2006, it's Israel that attacked Lebanon. In Palestine, it faces resistance because it's the occupier.
The importance of

Look at the map. It connects the Red Sea, and thereby the Indian Ocean, to the Mediterranean that opens into the Atlantic. If the Canal is shut, ships from Europe will have to sail along the Cape of Good Hope in Africa to reach Asia, & vice versa
So basically,
1. India lost a jet (and a chopper)
2. Our pilot was captured by Pakistan & paraded before camera
3. There's no evidence that india's strike had hit the actual target and killed terrorists
4. But Modi and his fans still claim that he 'taught Pakistan a lesson'.
SCOOP: A U.S. count of Pakistan's F-16 fleet has found that all the jets are present and accounted for - a direct contradiction to India's claim that it shot down one of the fighter jets during a February clash. My latest

For a long time, critics of India's position on the Ukraine war, mostly those in the West, were warning that India would end up on the 'wrong side of history'. Now the debate is shifting to whether India can mediate between the two warring sides.
The biggest lesson from the Afghan tragedy is that religious and sectarian fundamentalism causes irreversible damage to your country and society. Hold the idea of inclusive India aloft.

The US is not only providing free jabs, but also incentives to the vaccinated. You can walk in to the nearest pharmacy & get the shot. With the vaccination card, you'll get discounts at stores, or even cash payments.
Here, govt is reluctant to give even GST relief for vaccines.
Poverty in India
Bihar has the highest share of poor -- at 52%, followed by Jharkhand (42%), UP (38%) and MP (37%). Kerala has the least, at 0.7%. It's 4.8% in TN, 12% in Andhra and 13% in Karnataka. Source: Niti Ayog; Map from The Hindu.
The US standing with Canada, its ally and neighbour, in a row with India, its partner, is quite understandable. But the Americans telling the Indians that "trans-national repression' is not acceptable is a joke for anyone with a modest understanding of history.
Biden has launched universal free adult vaccination; put money in the hands of Americans; proposed the largest spending programs since New Deal; and now decided to back a waver of

Don't be surprised in Bangladesh doing better than India. Bangladesh has been doing better for some time. Hasina has cracked down on fundamentalists and been heavily focussed on the economy. Here, our achievements range from building mandir to forcing Tanishq to cancel the ad.

Wang Yi, China's foreign minister, came to India last week to invite Modi for the Brics summit. Modi didn't meet him. Britain's Liz Truss came to India yesterday, asking it to join hands with the West against Russia. Modi didn't meet her either. Today, he met Russia's Lavrov.

India could be the only constitutional secular democracy where a state governor would send a letter to a chief minister mockingly asking if he suddenly turned secular.
#UddhavThackeray
From a diplomatic pov, the govt did the right thing by distancing itself from the controversial remarks made by 2 ruling party officials & taking action against them. India shouldn't allow it to affect its overseas ties. But taking it beyond the realm of diplomacy is problematic.
So UNHRC adopted a draft calling for "concrete action against racism, xenophobia & related intolerance". Which all countries voted against it? US, UK, Ukraine, Poland, Netherlands, France, Germany, etc. Finland & Japan abstained. India voted for it, with others from Global South.

Last time when

If you ask me, India should abstain, maybe with a critique of the Russian attack, for 3 broad reasons. 1. In the 'rules-based order' where some aggressors are punished & some rewarded, major powers should take decisions based on self ineterest & realism, not just on 'principles'.
The
#Ukraine
war is a lesson for countries with problems with bigger powers. In the rules-based order, the West will give you moral support but if war breaks out, they will shut the embassy & leave. It's your job to build credible deterrence because nobody comes to your defence.
What LK Advani famously said about the Indian media during the emergency is true about India's celebrity icons now. You ask them to bend, they will crawl.
Biden refused to make a call to MBS when he became President. One and a half years later, he had to go to Saudi Arabia to meet him. That's the power of realism.

Those who attack India for not taking a more critical view of Russia are ignoring the basic fact that it has deep ties with Russia (which has assumed a greater significance in recent yrs given the changes in Asia) and that it's also is taking decisions based on its self interest.

To put it in context, 5,087 people were killed in Gaza in 18 days of Israeli bombing (over 60% of them women and children), which is more than half of the civilians killed (9,614) in Russia's war in Ukraine in 20 months.
Not a single US soldier has been killed in Afghanistan for over a year. But hundreds of Afghans are being killed by Taliban. The US might keep saying they're committed to the Afghan govt & peace process. But all they wanted was to get their troops out unharmed. That was the deal.
